I'll be wrapping up some testing for the migration to the upgraded forum software soon.  I will NOT be porting over passwords, so when you log into the new system, you'll need to do the "forgot password" option and have a password reset link sent to your email.

Please check your email address and make sure it's set to the email you'll be able to check.  Some of us have been on for a long time and may have a new email address in our account settings, so give it a double check.  I'm posting this here to give everyone enough time to change it if they need to.

I would suggest, for security, you use a password manager (I use Bitwarden: https://bitwarden.com/).  The password manager will be able to generate a long, secure password, and with the password manager, you don't have to remember it.  When you hit the page, a little icon pops up, you click it, and you're logged in -- it's pretty cool.

Let me know if you have any questions.

EDIT: After re-reading this OP, it may not have been clear.  If you've been on the forum a long time, you may have a new email address, different than an old one you may have registered with.  What I mean to say is make sure your current email address is the one that's set in your account, because after the upgrade, that's where the new link to set your password will go.

Should this be thumb tacked for future reference? We do have some seasoned citizens here.

Nope, if we were to turn it on now, you could, but it makes for lazy posters. We've always disabled it.

We'll leave that disabled.  I know on Gab it's sort of lazy, where you'll just like instead of commenting or replying.  It will have mentions, so if I'm posting and I wanted you to see it, I can just say "The other day, I caught @rotwang staring at my ass".

The "secret message" should have been a one time thing, unless you're deleting cookies or a proxy. We use cookies to keep your password so when you come back we know it's you and you don't have to answer the question again.

I never got a secret message. I guess I'm not cool enough. Just once I would like to have lunch at the cool kids table.

You must open the secret message up first.  I'm not a cool kid but you can eat lunch at my table.
