Don't see Mitch doing that. To show what a farce this is all he has to do is eliminate all the hearsay evidence, which is not allowed in a trial. If the dems had anything, they would have followed the rules, crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's. Instead, they got hearsay and feelings and are jumping up and down like a bunch of drunk monkeys demanding that the senate continue the investigation.

Hmm...well from my understanding he's going to allow them to present their case. The GOP will present their defense and that's it.
He'll then vote to dismiss.

And what if they don't? After watching the farce that was put on in the house where the democrats called all the shots, did not allow the republicans to call any witnesses, why do you think there should be "impartial justice" now? Personally, from what I have seen and read and followed, the democrats did not prove that they have a case, so why go through the same stories again? Are you are saying that the investigation should continue, if so, why did the house not finish it? That was their job, it is not the job of the senate to investigate only to rule on the house's investigation.

We'll see what is presented to the Senators and if they don't have any additional questions they can vote to dismiss. But the House Republicans had plenty of questions. I imagine the Senators will as well.

Wanna guess who the RINO turncoats are?
In a nutshell, it pissed of Chucky.
QuoteSenator McConnell repeatedly promised Senators, the public and the press that his rules for the trial would be same as the rules for President Clinton's trial. After reading his resolution, it's clear Senator McConnell is hell-bent on making it much more difficult to get witnesses and documents and intent on rushing the trial through. On something as important as impeachment, Senator McConnell's resolution is nothing short of a national disgrace.
Senator McConnell's proposed rules depart dramatically from the Clinton precedent – in ways that are designed to prevent the Senate and the American people from learning the full truth about President Trump's actions that warranted his impeachment. The McConnell rules don't even allow the simple basic step of admitting the House record into advice at the trial.
Under this resolution, Senator McConnell is saying he doesn't want to hear any existing evidence, and he doesn't want to hear any new evidence. A trial with no evidence – no existing record, no witnesses, no documents – isn't a trial at all. It's a cover up, and the American people will see it for exactly what it is.
Furthermore, Senator McConnell's resolution stipulates that key facts be delivered in the wee hours of the night simply because he doesn't want the American people to hear them. Any senator that votes for the McConnell resolution will be voting to hide information and evidence from the American people.
As soon as Senator McConnell offers this resolution, I will be offering the amendments to address the many flaws in this deeply unfair proposal and to subpoena the witnesses and documents we have requested.

It is missing a vote for a motion to dismiss. I guess there are arguments both ways on that. Maxine Waters already tells us she is lined up and ready to impeach Trump again if he is cleared on these charges. I think the GOP just has to say they are not going to allow this nonsense in the Senate and let the House Democrats make asses out of themselves.
Someone also has to signal Collins, Alexander, Romney and the Trump haters that they will be opposed by the GOP in the next election.
I just saw Chuckie Schumer whining about the impeachment process. I must admit it is enjoyable watching Chuckie pound sand.

Senator Perdue – We've got the votes right now to acquit...
Posted by Kane on January 21, 2020 5:36 pm
If you want to wait until the end of Senate trial to know the outcome, don't listen to the interview below with Hugh Hewitt and Sen. David Perdue (R-GA). If, however, you're among the 99% of Americans who know how this partisan theater will conclude, Perdue reminds us that Senate Republicans aren't inclined to endorse House Democrats' process or product. That means no witnesses to supplement their case, Perdue says, or any witnesses that haven't already testified in the House. "I am very clear," Perdue concludes "that no witnesses should be called outside the scope of these two pitiful articles of impeachment. I think we've got the votes for it right now. I mean, there is no evidence in the House case."

So far two of Schumer's amendments have been tabled by a party line vote 53-47. The GOP has stayed unified.
Democrats are 0-4 on additional documents and witnesses.

That is patently not true and that article doesnt have any good points for why it should be.
The phrase 'High Crimes' must by its very definition include crimes. And the word Misdemeanor has also always meant a legal crime and certainly did when they wrote it.
Sorry but there is just no weaseling your way out of the fact that you need a crime to impeach and since this doesnt have one, technically trumps not actually impeached, tho it doesnt really matter as once acquitted that removes impeachment anyways just like it removes being indicted. You dont stay indicted after youve been acquited.

you're wrong about the word misdemeanor in 1789.
High crimes and misdemeanors are not limited to actual crimes but extend to an abuse or violation of the public trust in carrying out those duties.

I watched quite a bit of the snooze fest yesterday. The democrats should hope nobody watches it. The House managers showed they are nothing but partisan political hacks. Trump's legal team stood head and shoulder above the managers. The democrats really need to hide Nadler. Based on what I saw yesterday, I believe the RINO's may have enough cover to go with the majority on witnesses.
On another small matter. Many democrats were crowing about Mitch's concession on scheduling. Whoopee! He gave them the sleeves from his vest.

He doesnt back this up. All he does is site a bunch of lesser impeachments which I dont consider to inform how a presidential impeachment should go. If there is something else in that enormous article then please quote it here, but I havent seen anything to prove that a misdemeanor doesnt have to be a crime, unless you are simply referring to a time when the govt got to just make up things to take people to court for, but we are America and nobody can just make stuff up. According to you High crimes and misdemeanors can mean whatever congress says and that is extremely unamerican. You still need a crime to impeach.

Again, Hearsay would not be admissible, nor rise to the level of Misdemeanor.. The term Misdemeanor applies generally to a civil servant or military, where one takes an oath and breaks it.
Hearsay does not have any standing in any legal proceeding, EVER!.
Out of all the witnesses the house interviewed, only one had direct knowledge. Ambassador Sondland. And what did he say? He was only presuming.

The definition of the word
Ya I figured you would go MW like libbies often do, acting like a dictionary is a book of rules when it is actually a report on usage. I looked at MW before I even answered you the last time and yes, that article itself still supports my position(tho the headline is misleading). You still need a crime and its obvious the entire mainstream establishment is trying to to mental gymnastics to say otherwise.

Excellent read and sums this whole impeachment for what it is.... Schiff, Piglosi, Nadler, Schumer and the democrats lies and evil plans.
The impeachment show's third act will focus on Schiff's lies and evil plans
Yes, impeachment is a constitutional process, but because nobody expects President Trump to be convicted, this impeachment is mostly a television show — in the genre of reality TV — intended by its creators to influence the November elections for president and Senate. But Democrats forget at their own peril that President Trump is the most successful reality television producer in the history of the medium. He not only understands how drama is played out in a way that satisfies mass audiences, but is a practitioner of the dramatic form of reality TV in which real people react to structured situations and act out their roles without following an actual script.
Many people have documented Schiff's lies.
5 times Adam Schiff just totally made it up today

Now Nadler, Schiff and the democrats have pissed off Collins and Murkowski.
I expect the Trump defense team to totally undress the democrats with their presentation. Hopefully, they will keep Rudy in the closet.
Walks, wanna merge this into the Impeachment Hoax thread?
Thanks...

He is not a man that can think on his feet.
I can't believe Schiff and Nadler are so stupid they thought they could get away with insulting senators. I am coming to the conclusion the democrats do not really want witnesses and documents. They would prefer to have the issue of no witnesses for the 2020 elections. Therefore they are trying to make sure the recalcitrant senators vote against witnesses.

Interesting turn of events. The main argument is Trump did all this to hurt Biden's chance in 2020. That includes the firing of the Ambassador. This week NBC sowed a video of Trump talking to Lev Parnas. In it you can hear Trump saying he wants the ambassador fired. They breathlessly reported this is proof Trump knows Parnas! What they missed is the video was recorded in 2018. Biden announced his campaign in April of 2019. So much for this long running scheme to steal the 2020 election.

They did not miss it. They just left it out hoping you would not see them flinging poo.
The Dims are Lemmings because they are puppets on a string. There's an inherent weakness that exists when you elect puppets - as the Dims do. People who will do the bidding of others controlling them in exchange for public position. The problem is that they aren't very intelligent - not the best of breed that we would expect to lead based on the constituents.
I've never figured out how Pelosi could be House Majority Leader, nor even a representative for that matter. She mumbles her way through everything and cannot speak a single clear sentence. If no one knew who she was, and she got up and talked, you'd hope that she would get good care when she's checked into a home.
Then there is Nadler and Schiff. These guys are professionals? Laurel and Hardy come to mind. The best the Dims have to offer to bring a case against Trump? It's obvious that neither can think for themselves - especially Nadler. Much less think on their feet. I think someone writes everything they say for them. Know how to make them look stupid (or more stupid than usual)? Make them act without time to come up with a script.
And the Dims have a guy like Biden considered for president. Have you heard Biden speak? He's in the vein of Pelosi - can hardly put a sentence together. And I'm completely dismayed that Biden hasn't been indicted - he's on tape doing exactly what they accuse Trump of. It's an open-and-shut case. What's the deal? I realize that it takes time to make a case, i.e., collect evidence and have a trial. But the evidence is on tape!!! They need no more. We can bring POTUS to trial in a matter of a couple months, but can't bring Biden to trial?
The Dims seem to keep getting away with murder while the Pubs sit by in disbelief ... but do nothing. Something smells like rotten fish.
We need more offense and it's pretty simple Pubs. The Dims have a tell. Listen for any accusation that they make then figure out how they, themselves, are doing it. Then throw the Poomerang. But throw it hard and fast, before they know what hit 'em so they can't cover up nor come up with a script.
Got to watch a bit today. Jane Raskin did a masterful job of tearing apart the arguments against Giuliani and now Pam Bondi is opening the Pandora's box that is Hunter Biden.
Ken Starr, Patrick Philbin, Pam Bondi - been absolutely brilliant today.
Today the senate voted down Schumer's amendment asking for more documents.
This morning it seems we have more wimpy RINO's not willing to stand up for no witnesses. Don't they see this is a repeat of the Kavanaugh strategy?
They are really sickening!
It is being reported this morning that Bolton had given the WH a copy of the manuscript. We are at the front end of this story so I am sure there is much more to know. However, if this is true and this info was not shared with trusted congressional members it is not a good look. As I say, we are on the front end of this and more information is necessary.

I'm guessing this bolton story will be replaced by the next "this really proves Trump needs to be impeached" and "we really need to call this witness" stories.

"While the Department of Justice has not reviewed Mr. Bolton's manuscript, the New York Times' account of this conversation grossly mischaracterizes what Attorney General Barr and Mr. Bolton discussed. There was no discussion of 'personal favors' or 'undue influence' on investigations, nor did Attorney General Barr state that the president's conversations with foreign leaders was improper. If this is truly what Mr. Bolton has written, then it seems he is attributing to Attorney General Barr his own current views — views with which Attorney General Barr does not agree."

Since they failed to pin this on Trump wouldn't be something if Mitt Romney wind up being the fall guy.

It might be helpful to have a President and government that understand technology so this sort of thing doesn't happen.

Yep, the old guard knows the party is committing suicide, yet no one seems to have the ability to take the gun away from them.

Trump keeps poking these snakes with his much bigger stick that they have given him. He's taunting them to come and try their next hoax; giving them more and more rope....

I admire President Trump for many things. One thing I admire most is he is fearless and takes on all comers; putting it all on the line. That takes a great deal of confidence, nerves of steel and skill.
I think he gave us a heads up on the next impeachment hoax. When he spoke yesterday, he said it will likely come from the state of New York. Any businessman would be concerned about a team of Prosecutors and foresic accountants going over each and every business deal he'd ever been involved in. The Mueller Hoax was a prime example of malicious Prosecutors attempting to make a crime out of nothing and when they had no crimes, they punted to Congress all the smears that might seem harmful enough to make a political case for impeachment.
Anyone know where the court cases regarding Trump's financial records fishing expedition stand? I think the city of New York's case was thrown out, but the state still ahs something they're going after for state taxes, I think.

If I'mm not mistaken, they were shot down by the Court Of Appeals. The more they attack Trump, the less credibility and leverage they have.
At some point even the Dims base will say enough is enough as the party crumbles.
