Title: Immigration
Post by: midcan5 on March 13, 2019, 04:16:35 AM
'Within a decade, the foreign-born percentage of the U.S. population will surpass its previous all-time peak — and then keep rising.'

Interesting read on immigration worldwide.

"But large-scale immigration also comes with considerable social and political costs, and those must be accounted for. In November 2018, Hillary Clinton delivered a warning to Europeans that mass immigration was weakening democracy. "I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration, because that is what lit the flame," Clinton said, referring to the upsurge of far-right populism destabilizing countries such as France and Hungary. "I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken, particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message—'We are not going to be able to continue to provide refuge and support'—because if we don't deal with the migration issue, it will continue to roil the body politic.""

"We should put hardworking families first by voting on legislation to create jobs, raise wages, provide equal pay for women, invest in education, protect voting rights, and pass comprehensive immigration reform."   Jan Schakowsky

What changed that now you're seeing it in a different light than before?

No one is invading our borders, what they are doing is coming to a land in which freedom and opportunity still exist as all of our grandparents did one or two or maybe many generations ago.  Kinda simple really.  That Trump uses it to divide and conquer is just an emotional tool that plays on the fear our territory is being invaded. That too is simple. Solutions exist but our current administration appears totally incompetent. Instead everything becomes a tool to divide.

"What changed?"   For me nothing changed,  there is / was no invasion, but there is the obvious issue of immigration.  Trump uses hyperbole to scare and divide rather than address the issue.  Note the quote from Hillary Clinton who recognized the issue rather propagandize it.  David Frum is a thoughtful writer and the piece covers the complexity of immigration.  Fascism or extreme nationalism are not places America wants today, it is why a simple wall is a wasteful and meaningless symbol.  Solutions are a bit tougher, let's hear yours.

Question....do you have a problem with illegal immigration....?

One question. Do you have locks on your doors?

Real question is: "Do you have a front door?", "Do you have a fence or any type of barrier around any part of your property?", or "Are you willing to allow them access to your fridge, couch, and bed?".

I was being succinct in cutting it to the ultimate basic, because everyone has doors due to the elements, while some live in apartments and no actual land in their name, so I condensed it to its most basic common denominator, locks, does she feel the need to stay safe and lock her doors?

Since they don't want any barriers, you have to frame it as such; along with, the illegals using the resources deemed for others.

Debate tip: Never give your opponent options. By listing several options, you give them wiggle room, hence the locking of doors. In her case, a simple yes or no is all they get, in turn, exposing their hypocrisy because a no, "I don't lock my doors," would be a blatant lie.
This exposes the fact that she is lying when she claims we don't need to lock our borders with a barrier.

Wouldn't the barrier be a more precise comparison? A door is still a barrier. No lock? They can barricade the door. Same goes for celebrities with their gated communities and properties.

I hope you are not ignoring the fridge and bed comparison since illegals are ultimately using resources. They want others to receive benefits but are not willing to let them go onto their own fridge or stay in their own house. All part of the same arguments.

First, what qualifies you to make such pronouncements such as there is "no invasion" and "A simple wall is wasteful and a meaningless symbol?"  What expertise do you have that surpasses the people with the genuine expertise on such matters including those who are tasked with Border security and enforcement who agree on the need for a wall?

A wall is not a "symbol" it is a security measure, perhaps the oldest and most effective known to man.

Hillary may have "recognied" the issue but what did she propose as a solution?...right...another reason why she isn't President...and never will be thank God.

I'm not giving them options; I'm giving them a one-two punch. Will they allow them into their house? Will they allow them to live there. That's s hard right, with a left jab on top of that.

Like I said, reread my post only this time very S l o w l y and let it sink in. This is one of the first rules of debate, being concise.
I've been doing this for decades, I know what I'mm talking about.

How do people enter the house?
