Title: IL comptroller: "State can no longer function"
Post by: taxed on June 20, 2017, 10:43:04 PM
It couldn't happen to a better state.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-06-20/illinois-comptroller-state-can-no-longer-function-we-have-reached-new-phase-crisis

QuoteWith just 10 days to go until Illinois enters its third year without a budget, resulting in the state's imminent downgrade to junk status and potentially culminating in a default for the state whose unpaid bills now surpass $15 billion, Democratic Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza issued a warning to Illinois Gov. Rauner and other elected officials on Tuesday, saying in a letter that her office has "very serious concerns" it may no longer be able to guarantee "timely and predictable payments" for some core services.

In the letter posted on her website, Mendoza who over the weekend warned that Illinois is "in massive crisis mode" and that "this is not a false alarm" said the state is "effectively hemorrhaging money" due to various court orders and laws that have left government spending roughly $600 million more a month than it's taking in. Mendoza said her office will continue to make debt payments as required, but indicated that services most likely to be affected include long-term care, hospice and supportive living centers for seniors. She added that managed care organizations that serve Medicaid recipients are owed more than $2.8 billion in overdue bills as of June 15.

"The state can no longer function without a responsible and complete budget without severely impacting our core obligations and decimating services to the state's most in-need citizens," Mendoza wrote. "We must put our fiscal house in order. It is already too late. Action is needed now."

Will the fed step in? This will be interesting.

How much of their budget goes to bloated pensions?

If legal assisted suicide is ever put into law and practice, it will be done right here. Rather than give up one centime of graft the parasites will sacrifice the elderly.

No time for a bailout. Let the crooks face reality.

It's an emergency! They should pull Obama back to Illinois quickly. Maybe pull HilLIARy also to be his "secretary" again. He can setup a Illinois health care program and mandate that everyone participate - double all the rates and the deductibles - then put the proceeds into the state coffers. Then the cronies can line their pockets some more. Repeat this process every five years. And the brainwashed Dims will line right up behind it and walk off the cliff ... again. Sounds like a fine Dim fiscal plan for Illinois.

... give Illinois to Indiana. Put the rest of the Illinois leadership in jail today ... will save a lot of time and cost to the taxpayers of Indiana. "Indentry" (like Brexit but in reverse, get it?).

I read this a couple of weeks back when they still thought they had a chance. The funny thing is, they compared Ill' to Ca which is in worse shape and were looking at Calif and it's creative financing.
There is nothing creative about our budget, which is why they just doubled my land taxes, raised the gas tax 12 more cents a gallon, added another $20 to car registration. That was this fiscal year alone, just wait till next year.

I guess Ill. decided against people packing up and leaving the State, and instead will forego repairing the infrastructure like we do here in Ca.

I envy Ill., I wish Ca would just quit this socialist experiment and let the damn state die a painful death.

Exactly the point, only a rino'E would get elected under those conditions.

I have family in Chicago and the evidence / history suggests that the politics there are more corrupt than the norm. Of course, that's where BO hails from - his training ground.

Four out of the last seven previous governors have served time. http://abc7chicago.com/archive/8973798/ (http://abc7chicago.com/archive/8973798/)

For a laugh (or cry): http://chicagocityofbigshoulders.blogspot.com/2013/04/illinois-where-our-governors-make-our.html (http://chicagocityofbigshoulders.blogspot.com/2013/04/illinois-where-our-governors-make-our.html)

At least some of their governors are now productive.

Indialnois?

Obviously not. First thing I did however was look up to see what party the governor was affiliated with.  Normally states that are tanking have a DEM governor and those that are run by GOP governors fare better.  Definitely doesn't hold true in this case.

Thats mainly because the legislature is democratic. Illinois will never be solvent because they will never take on the govt unions to reduce pensions. Raising taxes will always be the answer and hopefully the productive people will leave and force more of the tax burden onto the poor.

Gov. Len Small (R) was in power from 1921-1929 and was so friendly to the Capone gang that he pardoned former pimp turned Capone chief bookkeeper Jake Guzik, and Guzik's wife, a former madam.

Chicago crime sustains itself. Parties are only window dressing.

Expect the fed to do something with the pensions, nationalize theirs as the beginning move to pilfer our 401K and ROTH IRAs.   Interesting note, states like Tennessee  & Virginia have been flooded by rust belt & New England retirees.  They can't afford to retire where they worked either!
