How the CIA made Google

Wow.  This is a long article and in-depth, two part report, but the little I skimmed through makes a lot of sense to me in regards to how Google got to where they are.  It used to amaze me how Eric Schmidt would just walk into the White House like he owned the place, and how Google was so entangled with intel agencies.

QuoteINSURGE INTELLIGENCE, a new crowd-funded investigative journalism project, breaks the exclusive story of how the United States intelligence community funded, nurtured and incubated Google as part of a drive to dominate the world through control of information. Seed-funded by the NSA and CIA, Google was merely the first among a plethora of private sector start-ups co-opted by US intelligence to retain 'information superiority.'

I stickied it for the time being to keep it front and center for a little while.

When one considers googles position with the govt, isn't it safe to say they are no longer a private entity and should be held accountable for censoring speech?

I'm getting close to posting this article...  essentially, Google is a government business and needs to have its core technology open-sourced to the public.

Why is no one asking the question? They are not a private company, they are an extension of govt, it's time to take their Marxist asses to court.
I wonder how this will effect our Page rank, will Google start censoring us even more?

I think it's beyond that.  They've been doing this for a while and now they're making a move.  There's a reason Eric Schmidt pretty much camped out in the White House for so long during the Hussein years.  There's a reason Apple just made that SPLC donation.  I think they're throwing a hail mary right now and James Damore just became the last minute surprise -- like Wikileaks to Hillary.

They did not build that technology.  They were seeded and incubated by our tax dollars.  They own their core search technology no more than the construction companies that built the interstates own the interstates.  That technology belongs to we the people.  It was all fine and good when they were being neutral, but they can't become the keeper of the internet on our dime, then turn around and stamp out conservative content.

Agree, and the next step is a class action suit by all those affected by the Marxist govt entity.

It's so far beyond that, Google could fold up the tent tomorrow, and it wouldn't make much of a difference.  Google is one of the places it got started, developed, tested.

Sort of like copper phone lines, which are obsolete, but someone keeps figuring out how to get a little more out of them, T1, ISDN, ADSL, but they're about out of options.

Just about time to move on to bigger & better things... besides, everyone involved has made their money and wouldn't get hurt with retirement.  The other option, branch out into international markets, with technology 20 years behind ours - they'll think it's wonderful... milk it a little longer.

That's EXACTLY a point I made in the article.  I bet there are no non-CIA employees in Mountain View who have any idea about their technology.  I think Google's function at this point is a social justice/monitoring organization that also happens to develop and maintain APIs to their technologies built on top of their core tech.  Alphabet controls all the core tech and integrations with the intel agencies...

Who says we didn't learn something from WW2, NAZI Germany and the need to control information.
They probably do it at all levels!   You'll know, when there is a need-to-know.

The outfits that built the interstates (all private contractors) don't "own" the interstates. That's true. But the government doesn't "own" the technologies that made it possible either.

Individual states pioneered the design concepts of limited-access freeways. Ohio, for example, built and had in operation a 241-mile four-lane, divided, limited-access turnpike that spanned the northern tier of the state from Indiana to Pennsylvania by 1955, a year before the first federal funding was approved for the interstate system. (If you want to learn what "limited-access" really means, get thee onto a toll turnpike!) The state-sanctioned Ohio Turnpike Commission got that job done in just three years, without the slightest input from the federal government.

I think maybe the issue is much more complicated than you imply.

I agree... it wasn't a 1-1 analogy and should think of a better one for the article...

The analogy/point I'm trying to make is they (interstate contractors or any government project really) don't own the technology/product they built if it was built with taxpayer dollars and daddy intel agencies were right their feeding them secret technology to build commercial applications from.

If you and I start a company that was seeded from taxpayer dollars, and the DoD gives us a technology and actively works on it with us, and we become the biggest monster company in the world, but our competition can't come close to us because as smart as they are and hard as they worked, we had the advantage of unlimited government funds and CIA/NSA/etc technology, then it's not right if we turn our company on segments of the people that we don't agree with and impact their free speech, etc.

Help me think of a better analogy because it's a point I want to make....

It's a Freedom of Speech issue.
Be it contractors, govt, states, or those that maintain the Hwy system, Rail way system, a govt supported form of transportation and delivery, no one has the right to block access because they don't agree with the bumper sticker or advertisement you display.

The analogy is fine, simply because there has never been such a comparative action to take place in America, The closest one can come to would be, say, an Elon Musk and Tesla, or Space X, where he dictates who, or what groups are allowed to purchase his cars, or dictate where they drive afterwards, or disallow Christians and Jews access to future flights into space.

This is essentially what Goolag is doing, dictating what people are allowed to say, all under the guise/lie that they're a private entity.
Goolag was developed in concert with and for the govt, and is still an integral part of Homeland Security and until they cut govt ties, they have no right to any power over the First Amendment.

I'm just waiting for the class action suit. Why is no one talking about a Class Action Suit against these Marxist scum?

I'm telling ya Taxed, goolag is going to punish us for this thread, and just like the IRS over TEA, we'll feel the sting of a Federal entity, one called goolag.
But not to worry, the gop'E will have our backs.

Keep a close eye on our stats, goolag is about to make a change in its algorithm to include Conservative forums.
It'll be the only evidence we'll have to join in on the suit.
Make and keep copies safe.

How sad is it when our govt is so big, that the lines of private ownership/govt become this blurred?

Keep both, we may need it as proof in the upcoming class action.
