July 4th, Independence Day

We've come so far as a nation from the ideas of the Founding Fathers who "gifted" us with this freedom from serfdom.
I'd like to get some thoughts, pretty simple, looking beyond the BBQ & Fireworks ... to ask a simple question.

What significance is Independence Day for you / your family?

Since I've moved to southern Virginia, and drive hither and yon over rolling hills and valleys, I try to imagine this area heavily forested, battles waging, people fighting for a idea.   Sure it's mostly Civil War territory here, we don't have a Bunker Hill in the neighborhood.

What must it have been like, to live under the King of England, everyone a serf, almost conscripted into a sort of slavery, taxation of their meger existance - the list of governmental abuses almost endless.  We say, "they'd be rolling over in their graves, if they saw what we did with what they gifted us...!"  Really, if the founders caught a glimpse of "Today" and then returned, would they say, "Forget it guys, I've seen the future, it ain't worth spit!  Go home and do the best you can, 'cause we're leaving America to Socialists!"  Rather than go on...
Tell us, what do you think of for Independence Day?  ...  wonder if we're really worthy of their sacrifices.
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

There were some good times between then and now.
And there are some people today
who are struggling to be worthy of our heritage.
There really is no end date to the American Revolution.
In the 1770s, people were deeply divided over the Revolution.
1/3 were for,  1/3 were against,
and 1/3 would gladly suck up to whoever wins.
A majority of people in THEIR day  were not really worth the effort.
But they fought for PRINCIPLE, not for beneficiaries.
If just SOME people are worthy to receive the heritage,
then the effort is worthwhile.
Here are the 10 RINOs who voted to impeach Trump on Jan. 13, 2021 - NEVER forget!

Last night, we watched "The Patriot" (Mel Gibson), we haven't seen it in quite awhile.... Wifey calls it 'historical fiction', whatever that's suppose to mean.

Today July 3rd, we're pulling some hams out of the freezer to thaw for a little piggy smoke action tonight/tomorrow over natural hickory.
I suggested we do some serious pickin', vacuum seal it and save a big portion for quick meals.
We haven't made any plans to travel for fireworks, we can see them going off around us, to some degree from the house.
No plans for attending a parade, although that could change.
Kids are going to a business today, to change out a couple of tattered flags, an official ceremony - probably to draw attention to the business, instead of the guy who let the flag get ripped to shreds.

Not much to do with the signing of Independence, or the fight for Independence - pretty pathetic when compared to the real folks who sacrificed to get this new idea, a Republic, started this whole thing off...

I did this earlier today. Have a safe and happy Fourth --- and honor those patriots past and present who serve in our military, to help us remain free.

I woke up this morning and stepped outside and noticed someone had placed an American flag in each yard on our street; our entire street is lined with flags on either side absolutely beautiful!

Ordinarily we usually attend a local baseball game and watch the fireworks afterwards; this year we decided not to as we've had considerable rain and it's supposed to rain again tonight.

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays.  It is a reminder that freedom is not free and the tremendous sacrifices that many incurred to create this great country; a tribute to our founding fathers and signers of the Declaration of Independence!
