QuoteSEATTLE (AP) - An effort is building in Congress to change U.S. marijuana laws, including moves to legalize the industrial production of hemp and establish a hefty federal pot tax.

Polis' measure would regulate marijuana the way the federal government handles alcohol: In states that legalize pot, growers would have to obtain a federal permit. Oversight of marijuana would be removed from the Drug Enforcement Administration and given to the newly renamed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana and Firearms, and it would remain illegal to bring marijuana from a state where it's legal to one where it isn't.

Now is the time to invest in the company working on electronic sniffers that can detect weed.
Yes, I do see enhanced check points coming, Ca has them for the Dept of Ag to look for illegal fruit, they've been around for as long as I can remember.

This sounds like a battle between the Tobacco, Alcohol, and Agricultural interest groups and the Law Enforcement, Private Prison, and Pharmaceutical interest groups.

Moreover, this falls under the Treaty Powers of the Constitution, and thus state law would be preempted. Speaking, of which,  just for sheer entertainment purposes, I would love to see one of the  Foreign Marijuana Seed Companies file a complaint with the International Trade Commission against the United States prohibiting trade allowed under an international convention.

I couldn't care less what drugs an adult chooses to take, I would even give it to the poor for free along with a loaf of bread and tub of peanut butter, but I would also execute everyone of them that abused a child or committed an act of violence against another, and incarcerate them for a long time for providing it to a child or stealing my car stereo.

Government is best at sniffing out money. People will still go to jail for the weed trade, it will just be for tax evasion.

I can't believe they didn't do this decades ago. One Dead concert would balance the budget...

If you don't pay the tax on it, then it is a illegal drugs.
You don't think the state is going to let someone cut into their new business.

Depends, who do you fear more, the IRS or Guido and his band of thugs enforcing Union drug dispensaries?

How many times did we discuss this in our "legalize it" discussion previously.

The tax man will be more dilligent than the DEA.
