Title: Happy Birthday President Reagan
Post by: Turks on February 06, 2013, 03:58:08 AM
"Why on Feb. 6 do we pause to remember President Ronald Reagan on the 102nd anniversary of his birth? Not just to look back in gratitude remembering that Reagan tamed Carter's inflation, created 16 million jobs and destroyed the Soviet Union without a war...but also to look forward and realize how bright our future could be."

"On Reagan's birthday, let us hope that President Barack Obama takes a few moments off from blaming his failed economy on others and instead looks to recent history to see what success looks like."

In your opinion.  Save your energy bashing him.  We've heard it all before.

I like how no one is allowed to say something negative about Bush/Reagan, otherwise it's called 'bashing'.

I will let you worship your idol, we all need something to believe in.

Hardly worshipping him by acknowledging his birthday, but for all his negatives that you're dying to point out, at least people felt good, as well as proud of their country. More than I can say about how people feel these days.

And as far as your earlier comment on the source...where should I have looked for a positive article about him on his birthday...Media Matters or the Daily Kos?  Ed Schultz?  The truth is that I wasn't looking for one but happened to come across this one.  I didn't even realize it was his birthday.

By the way, no one stopped you from saying anything.  All I said was to save your energy, we've heard it before.  Knock yourself out if it makes you feel good.  I suspect you weren't going to praise him.

"He was a man of good humor, a great sense of humor, great optimism; a man who led the country successfully out of the depths of a serious recession, one of the most serious economic crises we've had since the 1930s; a man who developed a foreign policy that ultimately led to the end of the Cold War; a man who built up our national defense strength and who served the country very well, and that's why he is regarded by so many of our people as one of the nation's greatest presidents."

It's of no use, these kids have absolutely no idea why Reagan is so respected, even by older libs, they only knbow what they've read and been told by other idiots, they have no historical context when looking at what he accomplished, they have formed their opinion based on sound bites.

They wouldn't post such nonsense if they actually knew the truth and just how ignorant it makes them look when they do open their yaps.
Kind of like the child that just learned the "Pull My Finger" joke, it's no longer cute after the first day, and after a few years, one looks upon them as one views roadkill, don't even swerve, just keep driving.

I'm going on his policies and record.

I think it is you guys who are believing in this " conservative hero " myth that has been built up over the last 20 odd years.

Better than placing "hope" in a guy who refuses to "change".  The "fondness" for Reagan goes beyond conservatism but as Solar mentioned, you likely don't understand that, nor care.

Thanks for proving my point. You weren't even born, yet have an opinion based on what you've been spoon fed.
You have no context in which to compare, or clue as to what life was like under Carter, much like it is under Husein, the only difference being, the GOP doesn't have a complete spine between them willing to combat these Marxist moves being assaulted on the country.

I don't have much hope in Obama. I have said this about 1000 times on this forum.

Just because I'm not kissing the  Reagan arse doesn't mean I'm an Obama supporter.

Recalling a beloved President's birthday hardly constitutes kissing his arse.   Or for showing him the respect he well earned and deserves.

As Solar alluded to for another reason:

"I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience."

You know, there is far more to Reagan than the few leftist talking points you've been fed.
It may not be important to you to learn history, but you have no idea how ignorant one looks when they post that crap, especially to those of us that remember it like yesterday.

Reagan pros: Led free world to Cold War victory, low taxes, he wasn't Carter, he was no bullshit (PATCO strike), supported strong foreign policy (SDI, withdrew from SALT II, Reagan Doctrine) ,  no pandering to gays ("AIDS Gate"), Reaganomics

cons: FOPA, high debt, IRNF Treaty

This is all that comes to mind at the moment.

It is fairly obvious when says something on an internet forum, they're stating their own opinion.

That is my point right there Turk. Reagan was called the ' great communicator' for a reason. He could side track serious questions with witty but irrelevant answers and people thought he was great.

In the same way the left will still love Obama, even though he doesn't do anything, people will the Reagan.

Image is more important than facts. We judge our presidents on personality.

It's actually rather entertaining how the libs try and marginalize Reagan yet put Clinton and Obama on pedestals...

And there's your problem, that's all you ever hear the leftist media credit him for, when that was only a small part of the man.
Does winning a war without firing a shot mean anything?
Did Husein go to Libya and set Gaddafi straight and use his brilliant oration skills, the left praises him for?
Of course not, instead he bombed the Hell out of the place without Congress consent.

Point is, you have no historical reference as to what a true leader is, Reagan was one of those people, you may not agree with his views because you think losing freedom isn't that big of an issue, but to the rest of us, turning back the clock as he did is why he gets the respect he deserves from the Right.
That's right, he reversed liberalism in it's tracks for a good long while. I guarantee you, had it not been for the RINO H W Bush, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today.

Yet you can't seem to get it through your head these two are polar opposites, one loved the country, the other hates the country and wants to fundamentally change it.
Like it or not, Reagan had our Country's best interests at heart, Husein has no interest in a prosperous free mkt, he wants Nationalism/socialism, leading inevitably to Communism he's a Nationalist Socialist.
