GOP Takes A Hard Right Turn

I like this move, it just what we wanted, the man is a true fiscal Conservative.

Rep. Paul Ryan will counter Husein's SOTU address.

In elevating Mr. Ryan, Republican leaders are taking what Democrats believe is a political risk. He has written an anti-deficit plan that includes politically explosive ideas—replacing Medicare with vouchers and allowing some workers to invest Social Security taxes in private accounts—that go beyond what even many Republicans are prepared to embrace.

But conservatives counter that the 2010 election outcome showed he is precisely the kind of political figure to put forth as the face of the Republican Party.

It is a political risk. The general wisdom is that we're kids in a candy store and the more sweeties the politicians promise us the better off the politicians who do the promising will be.

I think that started changing some twenty years ago and while it's tough to wean yourself off of sweets the knowledge of the dangers of over-indulgence are starting to show up in the elective process.

That's why the likes of Arlen Specter complained about the Republican party moving away from him. He was correct but only in that the Republican party was following the direction dictated by the American people and Specter wasn't.

Now the Republican old guard is starting to relinquish leadership to the younger Repubs who didn't find electoral success being Democrat-lite. They don't owe anything to lefty ideas and it appears are getting increasingly restive being held back from going in the direction they see being pointed out by the voters.

I think the likes of Paul Ryan are anxious to see how far and how fast the American people are willing to move to the right because a lot of damage's been done to the nation by the left and undoing it can't start too soon.

I like this too.  Paul Ryan comes across really well.    If he can lace in some defense against talking points, then we score well.

MSM will go right to the "GOP offers same ol same ol..."...

If Obama does the usual Ryan's speech will be very effective as long as it contains specifics.

Exactly... he needs to go beyond the surface and dig a little to expose a little of the substance...

One thing I hate about cable news is the segment times... I always get frustrated at politicians who just give a quick talking point or two on TV, but they have too because they have no time to actually discuss.

That drives me F*n crazy...

Not sure what his point was starting off with the comment "If we all wait to see how this Divided Government works?"

People are pissed, they don't want more capitulation, or surrendering to the socialists, they want change, real freakin change!
One of my other favorite Conservatives Dan Lundgren of Ca is backing this guy 100%, I like the changes I'm seeing in the GOP.

I recall Bobby Jindal doing the rebuttal last year or the year before, and quite frankly, he went over like a fart on an old hardwood pew seat in church.

Which is totally irrelevant, the speech is more for the base than anyone else.
It is putting new faces on the party that is important.

Not exactly. It's to let the TV public see what is being offered.
