A pair of Republican senators have proposed replacing Columbus Day on the federal government's list of official holidays with Juneteenth.

Sens. James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) made the proposal Wednesday as an amendment to a bill sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) that would recognize Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

Johnson objected to adding another day of holiday pay to the federal calendar, and viewed eliminating Columbus Day as a fair compromise.

Not a terrible idea. I'd rather just add Juneteenth and make Columbus Day "Indigenous People's Day" like it is in some States and Latin America

Wrong on so many levels!
Govt employees already have too damn many days off as it is, so a better solution would be to merge all of them into one single day.
Let the Nation decide what days it wants to celebrate, screw Govt employees!

Great idea, just doesn't go far enough. Lets replace every holiday, every day named for someone, with nothing. That's right, no holidays. Long as you are at it, pull down all the statues, all of them. Don't stop there, anything that was named after another person, dead or alive, change the name to a number. Don't call it Fort Hood, call it base #1. Because no matter what is in the real world, there will be a snowflake out there waiting to be offended. Joe, should snowflakes make all the rules?
