Title: Good local news sources
Post by: taxed on July 25, 2013, 02:44:15 PM
We all look at Drudge, Breitbart, and the other major news sites.  Before we post a story from those sites, millions of people have already seen it.  Do you know of any good local news sources, such as what Rebel Pundit does for Chicago?  Or, sites on a smaller scale that do grass roots reporting similar to Judicial Watch or Jihad Watch?

We want to aggregate news from these sites that have important, local news, but get lost in the pop-MSM news cycles.  Who are your favorites for local news?  News that matters locally, business and politics, since business is affected by politics (Jimmy Johns leaving IL, etc).  If we are to focus on local and up, we need to help get news out.  Keeping a pulse on the rest of the country is important as well.  I'm in GA and IN, but am watching Detroit, what's happening in CA, etc, because all of it locally comes together for the big picture.  Hypothetically, if CA and IL went right-to-work, that affects all of us because it affects the Feds, and affects our state to be even more competitive.

Bloggers are fine too, but they need to be sharp -- like a Grouchy Old Cripple, or Dissecting Leftism at the top -- and comment and give perspective on local news stories.  We don't need Gateway Pundit and other large blogs like that, because they're inaccessible and get tons of traffic already.  (they are a great site, and you can post and link to them, but we're looking to build more of a local-first community).  Solar and I have talked a bunch about doing this.  2014 is a ways away, but not _that_ far away.  If we can get at least 100 good local news sources to start, then that would be great.

If everyone can at least post one, that's a start.

(note to SiouxRebel -- we don't need your sources, like the Marxist hairdresser you read from.  This is for conservatives and pro-Americans.  Thanks.)

Am I correct in rephrasing this, to say you plan to create some sort of sidebar of links, or instead are you saying you want people to ignore national stories over local?

You don't want my local newspaper. Or that sorry commie rag out of Ann Arbor. I try not to burden you with the laughably biased Toledo Blade. It's sometimes all I can bear just to quote from the Free Press, much less Metro Times (which is leftist but still less crazy than most). Like many smaller papers, my local one is now part of a corporate chain. We get plenty of news about celebrities who don't matter and very little about issues which do.

Essentially, yes... sidebar, or some form.  Some in a sidebar, others in a page...  I'm still thinking and will need some input.  Basically, I want as many good and smart conservatives sites as possible.
