A gay advocacy group is trying to rally sympathizers to help shift the Democrats' trouble-plagued convention from North Carolina to another state.

The group, Gay Marriage USA, launched a petition on change.org immediately after the state's voters overwhelmingly decided May 8 to define marriage as a heterosexual institution.

The petition quickly picked up roughly 15,000 signatures by 11 a.m. EST, May 9.

That petition is a problem for Obama, who is struggling to revive the enthusiasm for him held in 2008 by younger and progressive voters. He needs their votes to offset the political damage caused by his role in the stalled economy, record unemployment and record debts.

I think he'll masterfully tread the line of ambiguity until the election. Remember, he says he'll be more "flexible" then.

Which is not entirely inaccurate, since a private citizen has more flexibility than the President of the United States.

All of my black friends are against gay marriage. Most of the black people in the south are very religious so Obama better take heed as to what he has to say about it. He's going to have to get off that fence and take a stand one way or another.

My point is that once you get past skin color to the "inner Obama", he's just another left wing radical with nothing in common with the general run of African American cultural experience - although he's been "eating out" on that experience since he's been an adult. Sort of like those upper middle class, acculturated, white Americans; who realize one day that the family surname ends in a "z" and suddenly become aggressively "Hispanic". Even though they've been citizens since the Mexican-American War, speak not a word of Spanish, and have hailed from North Dakota for at least six generations.
