Oregon Lawmakers Bypass Voters to Protect Illegal Immigrants

snip~
After Oregon voters rejected a 2014 ballot measure that would have provided state benefits to illegal immigrants, defiant Democratic lawmakers introduced a similar bill this week that does not allow for a public vote.

snip~
By applying an "emergency" status to the bill, the Democratic legislators can simply bypass the voters. The status allows Oregon Gov. Kate Brown to sign the bill into law without having it voted on by the public.
