Flynn seeks immunity for testimony
« on: March 30, 2017, 06:20:09 PM »
I'm not a lawyer, but can't they issue a subpoena and make him testify??  Have I got things right?  I've  lost track as to what's going on ... the DEMS have accused Trump of conspiring with the Russians.  Trump accused Obama of wiretapping, but team Obama is stating they have information on Trump ... and now it seems Flynn is asking for immunity ... I would assume against Trump??

Flynn seeks immunity for testimony

"Gen. Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit. ... No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution," Robert Kelner, Flynn's lawyer, said in a statement late Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal first reported Thursday that Flynn was in talks to try to get a promise of immunity, but that nobody had agreed to his terms yet.

However, aides to the House intelligence committee said they have not received any requests from Flynn yet. A spokesperson for the Senate intelligence committee declined comment Thursday evening.
Flynn was forced to resign as one of Trump's closest advisers after it came out that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about his communications with Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak.
Three former Trump aides who are at the center of the federal investigation into Russia's interference in the US elections have already come forward and said they would testify freely -- without the promise of immunity. Former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former adviser Roger Stone and former foreign policy adviser Carter Page all said, via their lawyers, last week that they were ready to come before House and Senate investigators.
House investigators have been discussing bringing Flynn in for weeks now, but they have also expressed concerns that Flynn would plead the Fifth Amendment if forced to testify.
Democrats, meanwhile, quickly shot around a comment Flynn made last year on MSNBC, that "when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime."

This is a pretty shifty guy. I don't think this will lead to Trump.  Trump isn't stupid.

So far to me it feels like "I'll testify on what I knew or even was involved in regarding Obama and spying, but I don't want to be caught up in any part of it"...

...hmm.... Flynn was appointed by Bammy in 2012 as director of Defense Intelligence Agency.  He then resigned in 2014.

..."According to what Flynn had told in one final interview as DIA director, he felt like a lone voice in thinking that the United States was less safe from the threat of Islamic terrorism in 2014 than it was prior to the 9/11 attacks; he went on to believe that he was pressed into retirement for questioning the Obama administration's public narrative that Al Qaeda was close to defeat. Journalist Seymour Hersh wrote that "Flynn confirmed [to Hersh] that his agency had sent a constant stream of classified warnings ... about the dire consequences of toppling [Syrian President] Assad." Flynn recounted that his agency was producing intelligence reports indicating that radical Islamists were the main force in the Syrian insurgency and "that Turkey was looking the other way when it came to the growth of the Islamic State inside Syria". According to Flynn, these reports "got enormous pushback from the Obama administration," who he felt "did not want to hear the truth". According to former DIA official W. Patrick Lang: "Flynn incurred the wrath of the White House by insisting on telling the truth about Syria ... they shoved him out. ...

I remember that. The media buried it under denial and spin.

I still think Flynn is a wild-card at this point. "Out like Flynn" ... he was dumped by Trump so there's no loyalty there. Flynn is caught in the cogs of the big machine whether he did anything illegal or not. There may be charges pending on him and he's probably losing a lot of what he worked for in his career - the lawyers will empty his pockets just talking about it. Immunity might stop his blood-letting.

What is interesting in this current condition is that if Flynn knows anything that the Trump administration is hiding, it will certainly come out under immunity. Should put any doubts to bed.

Couldn't Trump pardon him? I think he could - and I would expect that might happen if Trump was scrambling to cover. Trump doesn't seem to be worried at all, so I'm even more confident that the Russian collusion angle is a red herring.

Congress can certainly issue a subpeonea and question him, he can also deny to answer under the fifth, IF He beleives his answer would incriminate him regarding CRIMINAL CHARGES. Even if he is subpeoned as a WITNESS IN SUPPORT OF OR FOR THE PRESIDENT.

Right now I'm wondering if he is being considered a "suspect" or a "witness". From the tone of the lunatic Dems it certainly sounds like they would want to pursue any criminal charge they can even if they have to manufacture something. So him asking for "immunity" up front is a wise move.

I would also think that Flynn is more of an aggrieved party, remember, his rights were violated when the NYT published his name connected to a Govt investigation which started this whole "Obama Tapped Trump" thing began. He has one hell of a lawsuit once the smoke clears.

HOWEVER, it may be that FLYNN, NOT TRUMP was the Target of a Govt investigation by the Obama admin, remember, to get a warrant to monitor (Surveil) anyone you need PROBABLE CAUSE OF A CRIME.

At this point there is so much we don't know what is going behind the scenes and what little ACEs Trump, Flynn and others may have in their deck of hole cards.

Well, with all the investigations and accusations I believe what we may be seeing is the mass corruption on both sides of the aisle ... who has the most power to make those accusations stick?  Which side is going to successfully bring the other side down?  A coup within a coup perhaps.

Yeah - and in the mean-time, too much energy is going into wasted heat instead of solving real issues. The Dims strategy is working and they're playing the MSM like a Stradivarius.

Let's allow one day a week (ok - how about 2 hours a week) for hearings regarding Russian collusion or any other side-show. Maybe get the second run at health care repeal going again - the Pubs can pass this. Get tax reform moving. Get the wall going. Heck - ask for donations for the wall - I'll send some funds in! Show some progress on infrastructure work. Anything besides the endless hearings about process and innuendo. DO SOME OF THE WORK YOU WERE ELECTED TO DO GUYS!!!!  :cursing:

I have noticed EOs slipping by while the Dims are pretty busy working the side shows. I don't hear much about the EOs except a sound bite hear and there. Even the overturn of the AGW / carbon emission stuff was just a passing note. The Dims are so focused on finding a path to impeachment. Maybe that's part of the Pub strategy?

All the side shows are still BS een if they work in favor of the right. Drop the politics and play the hand we have. Let's go through the front door and stop playing chess while critical issues drift unanchored. We're holding a straight flush if we'll play it - remember, presidency and congressional majority. Remember that you govern that power now President Trump! But we seem to have lost sight of that fact and seem to be drifting. If we can't make progress now, can we ever?

The media is playing their own fiddles, as they have been an integral part of the Marxist movement for decades. And their current job is to question the legitimacy of the Trump presidency with every lie, every innuendo, every sly hint they can dream up. They will play the "Russian Hack" fable until our great grandchildren are messing their Depends, just as they still use the "hands up, don't shoot" mantra whenever they can. Very firm believers in the age old concept "Repeat a lie often enough, it becomes a truth." are these people. (and I use the term "people" very generously.)

As for strategy, it is the same focus as they had when Obama was Chief Executive: destabilize our society, destroy the nation from within. The worse they can make things, the more likely they will end up with an opportunity to move in with their totalitarian state.

Sadly Trump just gave the whole movement a huge boost when he basically told a huge faction of his base to flake off.
