Any police  union would  be fools  to endorse a democrat.

The police budget makes me sick.  Police officers basically have the same education as the person at the back of a garbage truck, have a safer job, yet somehow make at least twice the money.

Throwing crap against the wall and not proving it does not make you much of a man. You are not bringing anything to this forum, nothing.

Well maybe if you and your associates weren't such idiots, police wouldn't be necessary?

Unless you work on a garbage truck how would you know?  You are inferring, I suppose, that Cops and people working on a garbage truck only have a HS education. Wrong again. Most police depts have required college degree's, prior experience and higher education since my day.  Then of course there is the extensive training Police recruits go through which is a one year process.  Many colleges count that as credit hours toward a degree. Also a great deal of the police budget goes into training recruits to a NATIONAL RECOGNIZED STANDARD, plus annual in service training and firearm requalification, ergo by being anti police budget you are anti education which you leftists place so much stock in.

Everytime you post you show your ignorance, no matter what level of education you claim.

Pop Daddy

I read,  the read it again several times about police budgets, with no details, something really stupid about comparing a police officer and the guy lifting garbage cans and then something about twice the money.  None of it made any sense, maybe that WAS the point.

I also notice this piece of wisdom was just lobbed in out of nowhere.

Not sure where this guy has been, but I haven't seen an actual "garbage man" in decades.  Automation has replaced 99% of the manual labor that was needed many years ago, now it's just the guy driving the truck and hydraulics do the lifting.  The average pay for the driver is a little over $48k a year without overtime or including benefits; health insurance and retirement.  Added benefit to driving a garbage truck is you most likely will never be shot at, people won't spit on you and you'll never be called a racist.

Police officers should make triple that salary all things considered.  It is an insult to law enforcement to think the job requires no more intelligence than driving a truck.

However, on a positive note, thanks to the total lack of respect and support coming from the democrap party President Trump will get 90% of police voters.  I would just like to thank all of you assholes trashing law enforcement for aiding in the re-election of Trump.

Actually what I thought I made abundantly clear is that a "HS education" with really terrible grades is all that is necessary.  In regards to a a minimum of an associates degree to be a cop being the norm, I can show you 20 examples where your assertation for every example that you can provide that proves me wrong.

Police academy is total bullshit.

In some areas of the country, I agree that the police are way over compensated.  Notice the key words "in some areas".

But there is a deliberate reason police are paid more than the average wage for the level of skill needed, and that is to act as deterrent to bribery.  Same with the pension and healthcare system.  By design, they were generally intended to exceed what was available in other areas of Government of the private sector in order to give an added incentive for officers to be honest in the discharge of their duties.

At one time the wage discrepancy was widely talked about, but as it spread to others areas of municipal government the touting of abnormal compensation was diminished so not to draw attention to it, and, it was no longer abnormal when compared to other areas of municipal employment.

For the historic reason given above, I think police should have relatively high compensation; they should earn more as police officers than their relative skills would command in the private sector as an incentive to remain honest ministers of law enforcement.  You want your police to think, I could never earn this much doing anything else, rather than feeling under compensated and under appreciated which serves as a gateway to justify nefarious activities.

However I am opposed to the recent trend of college education for policing as it is simply a backdoor justification for the compensation package.    It is simply being done in order to give a veneer of professionalism to policing as well as to try and dissuade the type of argument Hokey_Pokey advances.  If an officer wants to pursue a college education in law enforcement as prep for higher level supervisory roles, than that should be part of their individual career planning but not mandated for the typical officer.

There is a great downside to education, in that it often leads to discontentment with what one does to earn a living relative to the possibilities you have been exposed to. That is part of the reason courts decided that police department could discriminate against people with higher IQs.
