WASHINGTON (AP) — Acting swiftly in an extraordinary time, the House rushed President Donald Trump a $2.2 trillion rescue package Friday, tossing a life preserver to a U.S. economy and health care system left flailing by the coronavirus pandemic.

The House approved the sweeping measure by a voice vote, as strong majorities of both parties lined up behind the most colossal economic relief bill in the nation's history. It will ship payments of up to $1,200 to millions of Americans, bolster unemployment benefits, offer loans, grants and tax breaks to businesses large and small and flush billions more to states, local governments and the nation's all but overwhelmed health care system.

Trump said he would sign the measure immediately.

"The American people deserve a government wide, visionary, evidence-based response to address these threats to their lives and their livelihood. And they need it now," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

"We are going to help Americans through this. We are going to do this together," said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

Passage came after Democratic and Republican leaders banded together and outmaneuvered a maverick GOP lawmaker who tried forcing a roll call vote.

With many lawmakers scattered around the country and reluctant to risk flying back to the Capitol, that could have delayed approval.

In my view this bill is less than perfect, but absolutely necessary. Any hasty legislation is going to be loaded with stupidity. With continuing questions about the virus and the already known negative impacts on the economy something had to be done quickly.

If you want a silver lining, it shows how out of touch democrats are. I understand AOC is concerned because the bill does not call for payments to illegal immigrants. How do you think that will play with "the folks"?

I agree, and I also wonder how historians will view this in the coming decades. Did we panic, was the world overreacting, or was it simply that people refused to take hygiene seriously enough to prevent it?
I think people in general are lazy and ignorant when it comes to things they can't see, so they think someone else should be responsible for their well being.

I can't speak for anyone else, being I can live an isolated life, one I prefer, so avoiding city life is easy. But for those that have to deal with people daily, you'd think they'd take the extra measure to protect themselves, I know I would, but I have to, I doubt my heart could handle the virus.

This bill is bullshit. Trump will sign it knowing there is a bunch of complete garbage in it. What is even worse is Trump will sign it not knowing everything in it.  This is another one of those occasions I say FUCK TRUMP!

If people think a government check of $1,200 is going to stave off their financial needs they might as well as joint the band on the Titanic.
People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

I'm donating mine to the local shelter. But it's more than one check, the bill funds unemployment for those forced out of work, and guarantees their job when this blows over, and it will soon.

People ask yourselves. What if govt did nothing? People would die, no big, we're all gonna die, but what about the future?
Let's say the US did nothing, while China and Russia propped up their economies. What would happen to the hold the US has on the world, would you prefer a China/Russia alliance, where India abandons the US for a stronger economy?
Point is, we have no choice but to spend our treasure if we want to remain the dominant power in the world. I assure you, if we didn't save our industry, another country would surpass us within a year and we'd never recover.

Well, I honestly believe this was an attack on our Economy by China, and the Dems may have been complicit.  China's disinformation in the beginning almost derailed everything.  Had Trump been like OBoingo, asleep at the helm, we'd be hurtin' fer Certain.
Also, look where the Virus is prolific.  Washington State, New Yawk, Chitcago, San Franpsycho, Colorado, Connecticut, New Orleans, DC.   All Liberal Strongholds.
New York Lawmakers told everyone that New Yorkers were a "sturdy bunch" and that they should take the subways, go to theatres, ball games, etc.  N'Orleans Mayor refused to cancel Mardi Gras.  Hundreds and maybe thousands will die because of the lawmakers' stupidity.
So, I am still torn.  Are Corruptocrats just too corrupt to believe, or....
are the Democommies all as Stupid as a Tank with a Kickstand?  I vote corrupt.

I guess you're ok with the house of reps getting 25 million along with all the other crap we know of they got? It's all the other crap we don't know of yet that will be worse. It also doesn't guarantee jobs for anyone. Apparently The Cheesecake Factory is using this to close down some of it's restaurants and that's just one example.

I believe China had plans to do just that, but I also believe they weren't quite ready, or they'd have developed a vaccine first and held the world hostage.
The more I look at this in hindsight, I believe even more what that one guy said in his letter, that we knew what they were up to, tried to intervene and the virus escaped.

Sounds completely reasonable.  It is a weaponized virus.  Trump has been great throughout this fiasco, IMHO.
Yes, I hate that The Botox Bimbo got her pet causes stroked.
Yes, I hate that there is pork in the bill.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Trump has something up his sleeve for a Down the Road, "Gotcha" on the Corruptocrats.
But, how can a mayor be so stupid as to hold an event where New Orleans becomes a "cattle drive" of a million  partiers all jammed into one big chaotic melee?  And who elected the House buffoon, who told New York to congregate with one another.  They cost hundreds their lives.
I too, am willingly exiled from civilization.  I prefer the "Country" life.

Things that make you go hmmmm......The CDC states that 500,000 people was hospitalized in 2018-2019 due to the flu...... now I'm suppose to believe 89,000 people with COVID-19 are bring our hospitals to its breaking point.......?

Now I'm no conspiracy freak and there has to be an answer for this....what is that answer because the numbers just don't add up.

CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza (Table 1).

I agree that it is necessary.  I think that when the forensic investigation is performed that we will find a whole lot of Easter Eggs for the Progressive Movement dealing with everything from handouts for illegal aliens to funding for abortions and much more.  However, Trump could allow the Dastardly Dems to force him to veto this stimulus bill and then use that against him in November.

Make no mistake about it, Democrats are very much in-touch with the political situation at hand.  Moreover,  they are quite confident and willing to do  whatever it takes to get their agenda passed knowing full well it will amount to little more than a footnote in this current political culture..

You mean the situation where they stand no chance of gaining the white house?
