Obama administration granted citizenship to 2,500 Iranians during nuclear deals, cleric claims

A conservative cleric claims the Obama administration made the offer to sweeten nuclear negotiations

Hojjat al-Islam Mojtaba Zolnour claimed the offer sparked a competition among Iranian officials over whose children would benefit from it

The State Department declined to comment

One analyst said: 'This sounds like totally made up BS'

President Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May

He claimed the citizenship status was conferred as a favor to senior Iranian officials linked to President Hassan Rouhani during negotiations for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) - otherwise known as the Iran Deal. Zolnour added that the move sparked a competition among Iranian officials over whose children would benefit from it.

Department for Homeland Security figures show that 13,114 Iranians received green cards in 2015, while another 10,344 were naturalized that same year.
