It happened long before 2008, the Dims dictated the rules on lending, in turn ruining a system that was solvent.
The collapse didn't happen overnight. Think Barney Franks, and read about the damage he and his cohorts did to the institution.

The part that conflicts with their view of themselves as noble warriors in pursuit of social justice.

Liberals don't actually care about the unemployed. The unemployed are like extras in a movie providing a backdrop for liberals to act out their moral crusades against. The movie's about the stars - the liberals - not about the extras.

Keep that in mind and liberals are a lot easier to understand.
