Trump: I could declare a national emergency to get border wall
President Trump said Friday that he might declare a national emergency so that he could bypass Congress and order the construction of his long-promised wall on the southern border.
"Absolutely, we can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly," he said during a press briefing in the Rose Garden after a two-hour meeting with top Democrats about the government shutdown and border security.
"It's another way of doing it. If we can do it through a negotiated process, we're giving that a shot."
Asked if that stance was a threat to Democrats, Trump replied: "I never threaten anybody but I am allowed to do it."

Haven't we seen this movie already - similar to the travel ban? Wouldn't it then just go to the lib courts and they would shut it down. Or is there a reason to hope otherwise.

How could the courts shut down a wall or any other

barrierWhat I would like to see if Trump declare MARTIAL LAW Within 5 miles of the US Border and have the Military establish a
PERIMETER manned by armed troops. That would REALLY torque their jaws and not a damn thing the Courts could do about it.

In the event of a National Emergency, Trump is in full control, Congress nor the courts have any say.
I think there is a time frame involved, but if he throws the full support of the military behind it, we could see a barrier in less than a year.
I think the democrats will cave before it comes to that. Thousands of lifelong democrats not getting their paychecks? Pelosi and Schumer's phones will be melting down.
The Dems are already trying to figure out how to weasle out of it. Some of them are talking about this version of a slatted steel wall rather than the concrete wall SO THEY CAN CALL IT A FENCE. I think thats what they are going to agree to, funding thirty a foot tall steel beams which are slatted, apparently at the request of the border patrol so they can see thru it. The Dems will claim "victory" saying it isn't a wall but a fence.

Let's step back and put this move by Trump into the overall picture of him playing democrats. He knows this suggestion will outrage the democrats and send them off in another direction trying to stop this. All he did was mention it.

Even better cause Trump was talking about using the newly re invigorated AMERICAN STEEL manufacturing companies for the contract.....Being from a Pa steel mill town this really hits home with me.

One thing I think he may be missing that would be very helpful in gaining popular support for the military to build that wall is a real threat assessment with wall recommendations from active career military officers. They should have been doing this over the last 6 months. It would be interesting to see what the active duty and reserve Officers that have been assigned to help secure the border think is necessary! A positive report from these officers would go along way to justify the Military taking a hand to the American people and give Trump additional support to defend his actions as a National security crisis!

Not yet. There is no doubt that the Pentagon has already done a threat assessment, probably undated yearly. I've watched trump play cards with the left, and I have no doubt that card is being held while he waits to see if the Dims fold or not.
It's funny, 90% of the nation agrees a wall would be effective in protecting our Southern border, he has the Dims by the balls and they know it. This is a losing argument for the left, they are stupid and Trump, despite leftist media, controls the narrative.
