Did NPR not think this through all the way?

Did they shoot themselves in the foot, potentially?  Can the new conservatives coming in just defund them?  I wonder how much NPR receives...

---
From the Governor's Facebook...

At a time when our country is dangerously in debt and looking for areas of federal spending to cut, I think we've found a good candidate for defunding. National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it. And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this? We get to witness Juan Williams being fired from NPR for merely speaking frankly about the very real threat this country faces from radical Islam.

We have to have an honest discussion about the jihadist threat. Are we not allowed to say that Muslim terrorists have killed thousands of Americans and continue to plot the deaths of thousands more? Are we not allowed to say that there are Muslim states that aid and abet these fanatics? Are we not allowed to even debate the role that radical Islam plays in inciting this violence?

I don't expect Juan Williams to support me (he's said some tough things about me in the past) – but I will always support his right and the right of all Americans to speak honestly about the threats this country faces. And for Juan, speaking honestly about these issues isn't just his right, it's his job. Up until yesterday, he was doing that job at NPR. Firing him is their loss.

If NPR is unable to tolerate an honest debate about an issue as important as Islamic terrorism, then it's time for "National Public Radio" to become "National Private Radio." It's time for Congress to defund this organization.

NPR says its mission is "to create a more informed public," but by stifling debate on these issues, NPR is doing exactly the opposite. President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates – and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime.

Mr. President, what say you?

1.  Didn't she call him Mr. President?  I would call him that because I honor that position.  It's not honoring the man.

2.  Obama either signs the budget or doesn't sign the budget.   I, for one, give a shit.

1.  Calling a man "mister" is a word of respect to the man.  The job he holds has nothing to do with it.

2.  Do you honestly believe that Obama is going to NOT sign the trillion dollar annual budget because a few million dollars are allocated to NPR?  Obama supports NPR and everything they stand for.  NPR is just another left wing media propaganda tool.

They supposedly get 120 million a year and the CEO said thats insignificant, insignificant or not, they should not get it....Soros just gave NPR 1.8 million....its a liberal tool and they fund it

I caught some of Rusty Humphries last night, and he was saying, with another guest from radio, that NPR has the best, top of the line stuff that blows away the equipment from the biggest radio stations out there.  He said he would die if they would just sell  him their crap that they throw away every year.

1.  "Mr President" is how the POTUS is addressed.  It's better than "Your Highness" or Emperor.  Much as some don't want it to be that way, there is a correct way to address the President.

2.  I honestly believe that I honestly don't know what Obama is going to do.  My instinct tells me he'll get whatever he can out of the lame duck Congress.  He might also use his veto power.

I think George Soros's 'investment' in buying NPR 'journalists' is going to come back and bite both him and NPR in the ass (and quite possibly all the other new Pravda Media Fork, Soros has in the palms of his grimey hands!

He'll eventually try turn on them to wiggle off the hook, sure as he  turned in jews to the NAZI's to save his worthless ass, when he was just a little piece of shit!

I can't wait until the new Republican majority being their Investigations and Public Hearings.  Who knows, maybe he'll even give up Obama his own damn self!

Exactly my point, Quiller.

Williams being leftist means Fox drifts leftward, at $2 million and a 3-year contract. That's ONE bottom line.

NPR loses one of very, very few black male commentators. Way to go on helping those oppressed masses, y'all.

When NPR muzzles that detestable hag Mara Liasson, their version of "Maureen the Screed" Dowd, then I will believe they've mended their ways. I doubt I'll ever see it happen.

Actually, if you include the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funding for PBS, NPR and local affiliates, the total tax bill is around half a billion dollars a year. CPB's budget request for next fiscal year is a bit over $600 million. This ain't sneeze money.

I'll let the horse's own mouth say it.

Their request for the next fiscal year (FY 2013): $604 million.

C'mon now, tbone.  All 57 nationwide NPR listeners and all 113 nationwide PBS watchers really appreciate the fact that the rest of are paying this $600 million!

CPB is nothing more than a taxpayer funded version of Air America, except that NPR listener and PBS watcher ratings don't matter at all, since CPB's "product" is not subject to free market rules.
