QuoteThe biggest category of people affected, about 4.1 million, are those who've been in the country more than five years and have children who are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. After passing a background check and paying fees, they would get relief from deportation for three years and be able to obtain work permits.

Obama is expanding a program that allows people who entered the U.S. illegally as minors by moving the cutoff date by which one must have arrived to be eligible to Jan. 1, 2010, from June 15, 2007. These so-called DREAMers have been vocal advocates of Obama allowing more people to stay in the U.S. The administration didn't place an upper age limit on qualifying, provided the applicants entered the U.S. as children.

The White House estimates about 270,000 people will qualify for that provision.

Obama said the deferred deportations don't apply to anyone who recently entered the country illegally or those who may do so in the future.

"It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive, only Congress can do that," he said. "All we're saying is we're not going to deport you."

Urgent: Should Obamacare Be Repealed? Vote Here Now!

I can't see where the pro immigration fanatics can be happy with this. What little he is granting them they have to come out of the shadows to get and take the chance that congress doesn't win this fight in the end. They could still be sent packing in 3 years because of the time frame locked into it or if they failed to qualify under his restrictions.
Of the 5 million or so that may qualify i'll predict right now that less then half will apply!!

As I said on the other forum, I think the unconstitutional part was him granting green cards to illegals. If they are here illegally by law they cannot work. In essence he changed the law for this select group of people

I think they're saying that Obama's (illegal) EO doesn't grant citizenship, so what's the big deal? It's still a usurp of power by the executive branch by the worst American POTUS ever, and I hope holy hell breaks out as a result.

I think b o found out he can not do it out right.  So he is trying to make everyone happy for 2016 and not lose face.  Look like a BS end run.  Hoping to come out smelling like a rose.

So what exactly did he do then? I'm really confused. Which isn't unusual for me...

Amnesty doesn't mean citizenship. They were given amnesty. Citizenship will come later. Yes, Obama violated the law and he knows people will become comfortable with that.

Amnesty means they can live without fear of deportation He's telling them he ain't gonna enforce no stinking laws.

Amnesty is a pathway to citizenship.  In essence the existing laws have NOT been enforced for at least the past decade and he basically Obama has assured the illegals that it doesn't matter if they have broken the law as he has no intention of enforcing our laws and it is ok if they break laws; all will be forgiven -- they are here and they will eventually become citizens so that in 2 years they can vote...Democrat of course!  Say good-bye to the GOP taking the oval office in 2016.  We will be very outnumbered.

Don't expect miracles come January from the newly elected GOP.
