QuoteIn fact, a summary of Trump's draft record — from the National Archives and Records Administration in Missouri and first published by the The Smoking Gun website in 2011 — tells a different story.

Trump's medical deferment is listed for October 1968, months after he had left Wharton. And despite the campaign's statement that it was "expected to be short-term," there is no evidence in the records of it being dropped before the draft lottery in 1969.

The dates suggest the deferment stemmed from a Sept. 17, 1968, draft physical at the Armed Forces Center in New York described in a 1992 book on the businessman by veteran journalist Wayne Barrett. "The baseball-tennis-squash star qualified for a medical deferment," Barrett writes, but no explanation is given of the cause.

Various news accounts in 2011 also stopped short, and the first mention of bone spurs appears to have come from Trump this past weekend.

The fact that Trump was called for a physical within months after graduating indicates that there was a very real threat of him being drafted — long before the December 1969 lottery. Any deferment was more than "minor" then. And one big question is whether Trump actively sought the deferment by bringing a letter from his own doctor to the physical citing the bone spur problem.

Young men with access to friendly family physicians had this advantage at the time in dealing with draft physicals. Lower-income individuals, with no doctor but health issues bigger than bone spurs, could find themselves approved for military service.

So what, exactly, did our brave soldiers suffer and die for in Vietnam ?

As far as I can see, every drop of blood was shed solely for LBJ's ego.

Tell me I'm wrong.

You are wrong.

From what I have learned about that part of our nations history is this.

Vietnam (much like what is going on the M.E. today with Iran for example) is/was a proxy war between the United States, and it's democratic allies, and the Communists.

Which the French began, and promptly left laying in our laps.

One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

Well based on how well he dodges questions....

WE had no treaty nor mutual aid pact with South Vietnam at the time. The President of South Vietnam was as corrupt as any one to walk the face of the earth at the time. The UN had arbitrarily split the country of French Indo-China into two countries and the war was an attempt to reunite the two into one. 58000 men and women died because of a lie by LBJ over the Tonkin Gulf Resolution.

BTW, just as in Korea, we had no treaty with South Korea.

Perzackly.  This is how Bushie II ended up learning to fly obsolete jets in Texas during the Viet Nam war, too.

I just finished a book which recounts an off the record Q&A (I say off the record because it was not reported at the time nor for several years, only in this book for the first time, I think) in which President Johnson, when asked by a reporter why we were staying in Vietnam and even increasing the ground troops, whipped out his "sizable organ" and said "this is why."  For those who might not understand this, what he was saying was "Because I am much of a man, and I care more about being that than I do about 55,000 American deaths."  'So I finally know why I spent a year in Vietnam as an infantryman.  LBJ had a big pecker.   For those who are offended, my apologies in advance.

Thinks for reminding us that LBJ was a prick and needlessly caused unnecessary deaths of American heroes, many of whom were my friends.

I am truly sorry if this brought up bad memories.

But I'm betting there is not a day that passes that you don't remember your fallen friends fondly.

As long as they are in your thoughts, they live.

You're wrong. They fought to defend the Republic of South Vietnam, and to keep Southeast Asia from going Communist. And they won. Then a Democrap came to power and threw it all away - damn that sounds familiar! Like something that just happened recently?
