How do you think the flooding will compare to Katrina?
First off, Northern Ca is full of Conservatives,  unlike Katrina type victims in the south that depend on the state for their daily bread.
Here in Northern Ca flooding is a way of life, assuming you're over 25, then you've seen it happen, it's what happens in a desert state, flood or famine, unlike New Orleans, where they built a city below sea level and thought all was hunky-dory.
Here we prepared, that is, the smart ones, but when you look at all the libs that built homes along the San Andreas fault, you have to wonder about the other half of the states sanity or IQ for that matter (Bay Area).

Point is, Ca has always been prepared for disaster, be it fire, flooding or quakes, it's a way of life, a trade off for living in such a beautiful part of the country.
But now we have a socialist govt that traded social programs for infrastructure, namely a dam that should have seen major maintenance as far back as 2005, we had a long drought spell where they could have worked unimpeded, but instead, the Dims saw illegal immigrants as more important than the people that built this great state, and now those people face losing everything they worked for their entire life so illegals could steal thier treasure.

We'll rebuild, we don't need the state to resettle welfare families in Arizona or Texas etc like they did for Katrina.

FAA institutes flight restrictions around the dam.
Just happens to be 4 miles radius at 3000' in elevation, just enough to restrict drones taking picture of the evidence.

But in terms of houses being underwater, etc., do you think it will be a major story like that?

I don't remember how many homes were lost in Katrina, but the area affected in Ca could potentially be 1000 times larger.
Just to the South of the Capitol, we're already experiencing flooding from the Consumnes river that dumps into the Sacramento river, though not related to Oroville, it shows the strain on the river system all over Northern Ca.

In other words, as the uncontrolled flow from the Oroville dam reaches the Capitol area, there isn't any room for more.

Could they send some of the river water into San Francisco and clean that Dem city out.  It would be a good use of the run off.  :sneaky:

I am from SC and live on a lake, USGS monitors the level and the data is publicly available.  in CA USGS does not but CA Dept of Water Sources does, and they can't hide this:

I don't see this ending well for folks downstream of the dam...

Is this like the GW numbers.  If they do like the numbers they do a little adjusting?

I know its a disaster, but I find it fascinating to watch, just the incredible power of nature.

Agree - I love surf fishing, even when there are no fish, the utter power of those waves is amazing to watch.

Wifey and I have been tuning into these reports, it's looking worse and worse for the Democrats who thought they could control weather through taxation and carbon credits...   If they had PARKED their CO2 emitting jets, California might not be suffering, but Nooooo....!

So.... your nearby reservoir filled from 850 to 900 ft from Feb 7th to Feb 11... just 4 days....  and your not headed out of the area?
More rain is forecasted, the dam is at 101% of capacity & overflowing, a historical flood, never tested before - emergency overflows are running over the tallest dam in the US....?

Why are you waiting?   Leave the area.

What about Lake Shasta?
https://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvo/vungvari/daily.pdf

says it rose another foot from yesterday, and is less than 6' from cresting.

I don't know the area at all...  is this one going to be next?

Yes, it's an issue. I posted earlier about it, but it is the first dam on the list that dumps into the Sacramento river system.
Here's the problem, none of these dams have any storage capacity left and we have rain returning on Wednesday with snow levels above the passes, meaning snow melt.
So what happens, is two inches of rain, melts two feet of snow saturated with rain, turning into 7 to 10" of rain.
All of this water accumulating down in the valley into the Sacramento river system already at its limit.

Levee breach is imminent by weeks end.
