Just a refresher.

Quote
Led by Arkansas Congressman, Mike Ross, sixty-five pro-gun Democrats--including Oregon's inestimable Pete DeFazio--signed an open letter to Attorney General Eric Holder opposing any effort to renew the so-called Assault Weapons Ban. 65 Congressmen represents a significant portion of Democratic house majority; enough to show clearly the assault weapons ban (AWB) is dead in the current Congress.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, respectively the Democratic leaders of the House and Senate, have already gone on record publicly opposing any new AWB. It is my sincere hope that the perennial anti-gun legislators will recognize the futility of bringing forward any new legislation to ban any currently legal class of firearm, thus avoiding political theater that could only damage Democrats despite the hard work by so many Democratic Congressmen.

I wish the Democrats would HOPE & BELIEVE that they can CHANGE the odds that are against them being able to run in 2018 on an Assault Weapons Ban.  The devils are in the details.  As we know, it is not how a firearm looks, but how a firearm functions that is the only issue that can be legislated.  An AR 15 functions just like any other semi-automatic rifle.  When the Dems have run on banning assault rifles, they can not run from the truth of what it is they are attempting to ban and that is all semi-automatic long guns, regardless of how they "look".  This is an incremental step towards criminalizing the possession of all personally owned firearms!

This position is a Loser in an election and so the Democrats who are up for reelection will make a lot of noise but run away from it.

"But you don't NEED an AR!", we hear.  First, you don't get to tell me what I need or don't need, try as you might.  2nd, if I want to hunt coyotes with an AR, it's a need - of MINE.  Coyotes are big problem with the deer population.

That's why I have a 12 Ga, it doesn't really require much aim, just the general direction.

The argument about banning assault rifles is a red herring.  Laws are written to identify firearms by how they function; not by how they appear.  We ought not refer to semi automatics which are miliary assault rifle look alikes as being "assault rifles"  They are not!  They are "customized" or "sportsterized" or even "militarized" semi automatic civilian hunting rifles.

While it's cool to call our semi-autos "assault rifles" this only works against us and helps the gun grabbers mischarachterize our perfectly legal firearms.
