Firearm safety added to P.E. curriculum at two rural Iowa schools

GREENE, Iowa - (CBS2/Fox28) — Physical education in two eastern Iowa school districts will now include more than dodgeball and basketball. In the Clarksville and North Butler school districts, P.E. will now include a mandatory class on hunting safety.

Junior high students will have to take 10 hours of hunters education, starting this spring.

Superintendent Joel Foster, who spends time between both school districts, says the idea was brought up by a school board member nearly a year ago during a discussion on school safety. The two districts are partnering with Butler County Conservation to have trained instructors teach the week-long course.

The idea is to train students how to safely handle a firearm to prevent an accidental shooting in their homes or prevent major tragedy inside the schools.

"It's not just about kids that are going to be hunters," says Foster. "It's about all kids learning how to handle a firearm in a safe manner. Any time that a kid might be exposed to a firearm they need to make sure they know how to handle it and make sure it's safe."

Foster says if a student were to find an unsecured, loaded gun, they should know how to safely handle the situation.

Conservation naturalist Steve Martin says they are happy to work with the school to teach not only firearm safety, but "ethics and personal responsibility."

Ohio doesn't teach drivers education anymore either. Not sure about other states. Seems like another common-sense thing to teach the kids that they can apply.

In my state of NC one has to take a driver training course to apply for a license. That is sound reasoning.

I took Driver's Ed in Jr. High. I had to go to my High School during the summer. I was dropped off but I had to walk home.

I walked home. Uphill. During the summer heat.

And I Was Thankful To Do It!
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

I remember months ago putting this video up of this guy rapping about the things that needed to be taught in schools and the things that need to be dropped out.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xe6nLVXEC0

Solar's and his other members on here state that these things should be the parent's responsibility to teach these things.

Lo and behold what do I find?   Solar and his members agree that gun safety should be taught by the schools and it is common sense to do this.

But, shouldn't this be the parent's responsibility as well?

Why is all of the things boyinaband describes the parent's responsibility as Solar states yet gun safety becomes the school's responsibility?

Why such inconsistent and hypocritical standards?

Everything starts at home. A mother and father in a stable home raising their children with values and morals.

It also needs the local community (school, church, neighborhood) supporting those values. It also needs a society that supports those values.

Unfortunately, that never happens with Liberal parents, Liberal schools, Liberal media, and Liberals in general playing gotcha games on social media.

Specifically, what values and morals should be taught and kept and how does one deal with conflicts and contradictions within a morality based system?

Specifically, what should a parent's role vs a friend's role vs the school's role should be?   Should there be dual roles and if so what dual roles should be and not allowed?

I'm not going to play this Liberal game with you. Any parent does not need nor want schools to teach things that conflict with common sense moral values. Everybody can be taught to act right towards one another but not brain wash and force agendas down naïve children's throats.

Parents don't agree upon everything including "common sense moral values."  We have differing religions and belief systems across the world and denominations that don't necessarily agree upon everything.  What is the way to tell who is right and who is wrong?   Am I going to go to hell b/c I worshiped on Sun instead of Sat?   Do you believe that obedience to one's parent's is a good moral value?  What if conflicts occurr for what the child is to obey?  What is the proper way for a child to deal with a contradiction?  Example:   A parent orders a child to steal something.   What is the child supposed to do?  Does the child obey or not?   How does a child be respectful, honor, and/or obey his parents?  What if the parent is a pedophile?   It's not as simple as you, Solar, and others make it out to be.

2.  If these things are common sense then why do we need to even be taught these things?

3.   Specifically, what agendas are being forced down "naive" children's throats?   Can you give the name of the specific schools?   When did it take place?

I believe he is just looking for that perfect world where the government has and proclaims all the right answers for all the masses, provides for them, and takes care of all of those who have different opinions. What a clean little world that would be, no wrong opinions, no body preaching fake news, one size fits all. Who knows, maybe the next lenin is just around the corner. We're all ready to give up our constitutional rights in exchange for not having to make decisions??????
