Trump Pick For Army Secretary: Citizens Should Have Same Weapons As The Government

Granted, it's a Huffpo piece, so the glaring ignorance of the following question should come as no surprize...

What about nuclear weapons?

Tennessee state Sen. Mark Green (R), President Donald Trump's nominee for Army secretary, strongly believes that citizens should be armed ― and not just with any ol' guns. They should be able to possess whatever weapons the military has, because an armed citizenry is the "ultimate checks and balances" against the federal government.

"The Second Amendment, while it allows citizens to protect themselves from other citizens, goes well beyond just allowing us to defend ourselves from a criminal," Green said at a pro-gun rally in 2013.

"The men who penned and ratified this document gave us the right to keep and bear arms as an ultimate checks and balances against the federal government," he added. "When considering magazine size and weapon type, comments like, 'You don't need a 10-round magazine to hunt deer' completely misses the point of the Second Amendment."

There are plenty of other checks and balances in the Constitution, which are spelled out far more explicitly. Citizens can amend the Constitution, Congress can impeach the president and lawmakers have to stand for re-election.

If you watch anything today, make it this video, at least the first two minutes and you'll agree, he is an excellent choice for Army Secretary.

Solar, you don't have a nuke in your armament? Heck, we use ours to keep warm in the winter too. That glow is annoying though. Hmm ... who's the g-man knocking at my door?

That's a great idea, and here I've been using them to clear weeds and mine for gold.
I noticed this is one of those articles HuffPo does, where they don't allow comments, because they know quite well, that there's no winning argument against the 2nd.

The straw man BS over owning a nuke is beyond ludicrous because there is no instance where fighting a tyrannical govt could warrant a scorched earth policy on our own land. God, libs are stupid!

Mark Green has backed out of the Army secretary offer.

QuotePresident Donald Trump's choice for Army secretary withdrew his nomination Friday after mounting criticism over past statements he made about gays and lesbians, Muslims and other groups.

Mark Green, a Republican Tennessee state senator from Clarksville, pulled his name from consideration in a short statement Friday afternoon that said his nomination had become a distraction "due to false and misleading attacks against me."

The left just loved how Obama trashed the Army. Some 41 leftist groups had filed snivels over Green's religious beliefs.

But it's OK to be a leftist with proven commie connections or a backer of NAMBLA, but don't you dare have religious values.

I was surprised to learn today that Saul Alinsky served as a member of a prison parole board in the Chicago area. Speaking of commies with values.

Jussssssssst a thought about the thread headline. Citizens should always have BETTER weapons than their government. If Uncle Sugar doesn't like that, too freaking bad. I want them terrified, resigning en masse or tossed out by buyouts it doesn't matter so long as they can't spend any more of my money on NPR and PBS, the Department of Education EPA, Labor (merged into the Justice Department to go after unions again!) and of course any pension for any President earning more than $400,000/year in speaking or other income. (Hi, Barack!)

Ah me. An old man can dream.....

The military is developing a new rifle
to replace the M-16/M-4 platform.
Recent wars have involved firefights
at distances over 300 meters.

The M-16 round just can't
reach out and touch someone effectively at that distance.
Plus, adversaries are wearing body armor.
Our guys need something that can punch through that.

They're looking at bullets in the 6.5 - 7mm range
to replace the current 5.56mm / .223 caliber bullet.
They anticipate that the new rifle
may be introduced to troops in 2020 or so.
