Well, if you insist, the answer is --- no.

It's a revenge story and three-way battle of wits between an unwilling recruit and the old man seeking vengeance against a fellow spy who betrayed him during WII. Both have reason to fear an unusually lucky local detective following clues much too effectively for comfort.

Don't know if you could send something like that in the mail without a return address.  And Rick would just love to have your address.  You and Solar are residing in his head for free even today.  You could tell from his post just last week.

One truth here, squire, is that I don't and can't control who buys or doesn't buy my stuff. Another is that my fiction is separate from my various screeds and derangements on-line.

If someone whose sole ability is to cut and paste wishes to produce their own E-book, they are welcome to do so. (Good luck on copyright lawsuits!) I worked a whole lot harder than that. It's easy to stay above that argument now.

Congrats Quiller!

Thanks.

To answer your question elsewhere, I'm contractually bound until Spring with only the Amazon Kindle version, and free to explore paperback and other formats after that. Several print-on-demand outfits exist, or I can just put my year of working for a book printer to work and design, print and market the work myself. I haven't decided.

FWIW, the E-book trend is now the fastest-growing segment of modern publishing. Print-on-demand is also gaining ground, with Kodak reportedly about to launch a series of kiosk operations nationwide, all working off --- you guessed it --- E-books.

Kindle's e-reader for Windows is actually quite good, allowing you to format the line-lengths to paperback size, or change the type to your own preferences. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by it.

To those who are following events elsewhere, someone who actually bought the book has already found a logic error, which will cost me to fix and does need fixing at some point. This was from someone who frankly stated he disagrees with me politically, but presented his point fairly and without rancor.

That's unusual these days on the Internet.

Quiller,

Congrats to our conservative forum member for writing a book.  I don't know of any other forum that can boast of this event about one of it's members.  Good luck with your (hopefully) next offering.  I'm presently waiting on hubbie to install my windows version of the kindle reader and will get back to you with my humble opinion of your book.

Thanks for your kind words. I don't know how many MESSAGE FORUM folks have any sort of e-book out, but the bloggers are certainly active (particularly political nonfiction).

The Kindle format is exclusive to Amazon but their reader for the PC or for Mac is very easy to install, and it's not insanely hard to use like some software out there. They also offer a full spread of add-ons for electronic hand-held readers and the like.

Please be advised there is strong language in parts of this book. I say this as an advisory to family-oriented readers (who may not wish such fare to be on-screen if their kids are present).

I might do that. I never bought a kindle because I like seeing the books on my shelves. I have almost every book I have ever read.  I read the write up on Amazon and it looks very interesting.  Almost as interesting as little Ricky's critique   What a total buffoon.  Either way I'm gonna buy it.

After the 90-day exclusivity expires with Amazon, I'm free to explore print-on-demand options. I haven't kept a fraction of what I've ever read, simply for storage reasons, but I sympathize with those more comfortable with a physical volume.

I didn't read Ricky's remarks, other than to establish he was looking out for my very bestest well-being, even if he had to flatten my head to listen. (Or something like that. Belligerence and ego in the usual proportions, alas.)

Who are some authors that have influenced you?  (Ricky doesn't count....)

I read everything from Shakespeare to Chaucer to Orwell, Huxley, and scores more before I ever got through 10th grade. Popular fiction included a lot of the old Gold Medal Books from Fawcett, or the various New American Library thrillers going out at that time.

No one series influenced me more than others, since I got different things from different writers. Donald E. Westlake (under the pen name of Richard Stark) wrote a brilliant crime series about the ultimate amoral criminal, Parker. Three movies have already been made from "The Hunter," the first in that series. Also under the Stark name was a spin-off series about one of Parker's frequent partners, part-time actor Alan Grofeld. Under the Westlake name he penned so many other smash hit novels that I can safely say he was a model for sheer output and manuscript organization.

Another series involved contract CIA agent Joe Gall, by the hilariously pen-named Philip Atlee (a play on real-life CIA agent Atlee Phillips). Gall was popular at the same time as the Bond series, only far more realistic. Espionage writers of note included Eric Ambler, Graham Greene, John le Carre, Len Deighton, and a ton of espionage nonfiction at both the popular and university-library research level.

More recently, Michigan writers Elmore Leonard (TV's "Justified") and Loren D. Estelman ("Whiskey River" trilogy, particularly, and the fine Amos Walker mysteries). Or John Dunning's excellent antiquarian book mysteries with Cliff Janeway. (I've met both Estelman and Dunning, but doubt I'll meet Leonard, who's usually somewhere else when I get into Detroit).

Aside from that I'm drawing a blank. I mean, I read two or more books a day as a kid, tapering off recently for obvious reasons. Mixed in there were the Bronte sisters, Thackeray, Shelley and Stoker, and the usual run of Chaucer, Swinburne and other doom-'n'-gloom poets of the 1800s. (Teenaged angst, I have no doubt.)

==

I wrote the above before seeing WT's comment regarding Ricky at war with the world. I didn't pick up on Ricky being any MORE obnoxious than he USUALLY is.

That drinking game will wreck a whole bunch of us. Taxed is evil for suggesting it.

I wrote the above before seeing WT's comment regarding Ricky at war with the world. I didn't pick up on Ricky being any MORE obnoxious than he USUALLY is.

That drinking game will wreck a whole bunch of us. Taxed is evil for suggesting it.

LOL In my youner days I may have lasted one day.  But I stopped drinking 20+ years ago.  So I thinking one 10 oz glass of a nice Scotch made before 1950 would do it.

I have liquor in the house but haven't had any for several years. It's been at least five years since I had more than two drinks of any kind in a single evening (and I wasn't driving). After I got out of the service I just lost the taste for it.

I think it's referred to as growing up. Getting drunk is for kids and those that tend to self medicate.
I'm like you, I seldom drink, but if I do, it's top of the line whiskey.

Granted, this is just my opinion, but it just doesn't make sense waking up feeling like total shit the next day, I can manage that without alcohol.

I am unable to decide whether Ricky has been booted out and is stealing Wi-fi bandwidth from a McDonald's dumpster, or is peddling his announcements of godlike expertise from someone not tying-down their home wi-fi router.

Unlike Ricky, I don't presume to know details of his home life. And I didn't know his waist-size as it was, six years ago, much less now, so I can't talk about him like he talks about six years ago like it's still today. Ricky's funny that way. Keeps on lying. Keeps on thinking nobody notices.

See, when you admit you've been banned more than 100 times, and he has, you can claim victory over HOW you trolled, but you can't escape that you ARE one.

Well, I'm here and they're there, but one thing's for sure. Surely nobody ELSE would pay to keep him this busy, unless he was irritating them so much that giving him the Internet was better than giving him credence and company.

Memo to the guy flogging his ebook on his first post here. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't address this point blank, considering certain comments made elsewhere by the big cheeses here.

I was invited here, and signed in to this forum on Day 1 of its existence, and made several thousand posts of various topics, before daring to put up my own squib. I do not speak for CPF management, did not ask permission beforehand --- and have thanked these guys for their tolerance --- but I didn't flog my book on my first day. Sorry, but that one was a bit...gauche.

I actually was AT the party, before I blew my kazoo....

Talk about a surprise, here! I'm almost ready to talk nice about Linux.....

This month, I also published a fantasy mystery, A Blue Frog Occasion.

Shameless self-promotion follows....

Great Ward is now crumbling, after 3,000 years of peace,. Two unstoppable enemies prepare to invade...and blue frog magic is almost gone.

Now comes the death of a very uncommon acolyte, revealing centuries of secrets when the wizard Vorin investigates why she died...reopening an ageless war between himself and the ever-grasping Order she joined.

If he fails, his magic will be gone forever and East Thumb Peninsula will be lost. If he wins, an entire society must change.

No. Thus far it's been family members.

Speaking of Darwhiner, he claimed over at LNF that he'd already read an early draft of the book, and added I had given a copy to Lin during one of the two vacations my wife and I went on with her (including our honeymoon).

Separately, when I challenged him to the June 30 Deadline for writing, editing and publishing his own E-book, he specifically said he would not compete against someone who had worked on a book for years.

It's a process. Patience and time are required, and for Ricky, time just flat ran out.

Good on you, quiller.

So, you're a mystery writer, eh?  Explain the liberal mentality to us, please.

Some mysteries are simply unsolvable, then again, some we don't want to know the answer.
