We all think that's obsurd.....they should only be in Washington twice a year for a month stretch each time tops.

They can stay at hotels....or build a govt Hostel......barebones so they want to go back home

I am unable to accept the idea that I should be an obedient subject of a gang of corrupt, unprincipled thugs who pontificate about freedom while enslaving the population.

Yep, and part time Congress, that only goes to DC once a year, the rest of the time should be spent telecommuting.

They should be made to stay in one of Washington DC's housing projects, Potomac Gardens, Barry Farms, Sirsum Corda.... which are like a microcosm of a war zone. Let them see what their Democratic policies have wrought.

If I might play the Devil's Advocate; Rich Congressmen can pay their own expenses and afford to be in Washington doing the work of the Devil as much as such work may require. I am rather uncomfortable with having the Representatives we sent to Washington to represent us only being individuals who are wealthy enough to be able to support their homes and families in their home districts and not bat an eye at the cost of housing Washington DC.  In the great scheme of things, it's not a whole lot of money.

If we want to have good, conservative fighters in Washington, then we need to have regular, everyday neighbors who may not have the means to even compete with the wealthy Elites of the Swamp.

I'm not sure, but this point needs some consideration.

We are able to send our Representatives from our districts every two years.  Why don't we have any regular every day people in Congress?  Do they all have to be lawyers and millionaires?

It's supposed to be a privilege and a public service.  Not a get-rich scheme or luxurious experience.

They should have cots in their office, or some sort of semi-private dormitory.  They already have a fancy gym and locker room to shower in, and an equally nice dining room.  They really should live in a similar manner to our military, not like the Queen of England.

They should really have a cubicle farm instead of lavish offices, too.

Somebody needs to just run for congress and senate with these stated values / goals -

-As stated above
-Tighter term limits
-Age limits
-6 months in DC, 6 months at home with constituency / mandatory town halls and planning meetings
-Enforce insider trading and similar laws of ethics / morality

The politicians in DC may all hate you, but I'll bet the voters may just go for it.  I'd love to get elected just to go up there and be an outcast, say exactly what I think about everybody and everything they do.  Have no plans to be re-elected, blow it out in one term and make that a calling card as well.  Tell all the lobbyists to f-off, publicly, as well.

You may actually get shot by somebody !

Many of them do "have cots in their office" and ...

this is not for himself... Jason Chaffetz said this on the way out the door...

" but before going, the Utah Republican gave an exit interview to the Hill on Tuesday in which he bemoaned the costs that members of Congress bear in splitting their time between Washington and their home states. "Washington, DC, is one of the most expensive places in the world, and I flat-out cannot ..."

" To top it off, Chaffetz has been one of those guys who sleeps on a rollaway cot in his office rather than test the waters of DC's cutthroat real-estate market. At least 40 other House members share this habit, "

I knew my "Devil's Advocate" post would be controversial.  However, I know for a fact that we have difficulty finding qualified individuals who share our values and beliefs who are willing to make the sacrifices it take to run for and then remain in political office. The fact is that it takes a person of some personal wealth to be able to support a home and family in their home state and be in Washington when we need them to and balance travel and time between their family and paying their bills at home and doing the people's business in Washington for two years!  I don't think we necessarily get our best and our brightest when we only have candidate who are very wealthy (and/or lawyers).  Does that make sense to anyone else?

Jason Chavez floated this idea after he did not seek reelection and it would not be self serving.

Hmm.........................so $30,000 for a good conservative fighter? Wow, sounds like a real bargain. So How many have we got now??? Er..................???? Time for a reality check!
The frauds and hustlers who infest DC wound't know a Rule (Principle) of Conservatism from
the Rule on Pass Completion/Incompletion in the NFL.
Suggestion. Keep them as far ways from DC as possible w/ their ability to conspire and cheat.
Have them vote on the Net so at least we can save the $30,000 bucks per asshole.

Do you think things will get better on their own?

At point will you get mad? When will you resist? What will say when the economy collapses, you get sent to the concentration camps, the civil war starts, and WWIII breaks out?

Will you feel any responsibility at all?

Are you just going to take it?

Actually, I commend Chaffetz, as you said he slept in his office.  I object to the ones who can
afford expensive digs, and can deduct it on their taxes.
I see the issue as this and I always wondered why the Federal Government is paying members of
the House and Senate...one could consider that a conflict of interest.  They are sent to Washington
to represent their States, and the citizens of their States.    Why aren't the States paying their
salaries, and providing a stipend.

Why are they not working for home 90% of the time.  With the communications we have now days they don't need to spend 24/7 in DC.  It was to be a part time job not a full time job.  They have made it full time.

Life is a nightmare now.

You'll be wiretapped if you make a phone call and tracked by license plate readers if you drive.

If you go to a baseball game or Disneyland, you'll need to give your fingerprints, be molested, and be made to carry a microchip.

We're all slaves living in a prison.

Who would want to be born into this world?

I dont know where you live, but out here in the Midwest there is alot of space and alot of freedom.

I agree that gvt power needs to be restrained, our founders said that. And ya the legal system needs to be revamped. And ya, local police need to be policed by citizens. But the closest thing to a police state is the deep state which trump and Q r taking care of now. So sleep easy and prepare for a new age of freedom.

Some Americans may have felt uneasy 35 years ago when DUI laws, DWI checkpoints, seatbelt laws, and car liability insurance laws were started, but most people felt that the experts must be right.

Pro-police state shows like "COPS" and "America's Most Wanted" were then aired, neighborhood watch groups were formed, "get tough on crime" candidates were elected, and laws allowing mandatory minimums, IMBRA, 3 strikes laws, curfews, police militarization, teen boot camps, school metal detectors, private prisons, and chain gangs were enacted.

Nanny state smoking laws then started appearing.

When 9/11 happened, the Patriot Act was passed, NSA wiretapping, no knock raids, take down notices, no fly lists, terror watch lists, Constitution free zones, stop and frisk, kill switches, National Security Letters, DNA databases, kill lists, FBAR, FATCA, Operation Chokepoint, TSA groping, civil forfeiture, CIA torture, NDAA indefinite detention, secret FISA courts, FEMA camps, laws requiring passports for domestic travel, IRS laws denying passports for tax debts, gun and ammo stockpiles, laws outlawing protesting, Jade Helm, sneak and peek warrants, policing for profit, no refusal blood checkpoints, license plate readers, redlight cameras, speed cameras, FBI facial and voice recognition, tattoo databases, gun bans, the end to the right to silence, free speech bans, searches without warrants, CISPA, SOPA, private prison quotas, supermax prisons, FOSTA, sex offender registration laws, and sex offender restriction laws were allowed.

Now that the USA is a total police state, Americans are finding out that changing anything is impossible and that freedom is lost forever.

Watch "Bait Car". The cops aren't the problem. It's the endless supply of minorities stealing cars is.

You wanna complain about cops? I can point to situations where the cops didn't do enough, because bullshit policies.

The same moral police officer who earns $24,000 per year and says that he loves the Bill of Rights might be happy to torture if he was paid $100,000 a year.

The same could be said for citizens. By the way, what the hell is your point or solution?

Just move to another country and let real men, Patriots, Trump fix the problems, we don't need whiners.

We don't do torture. I guess we just do waterboarding, where the only torture involved is the muzzi being forced to finally get a bath.
