We all think that's obsurd.....they should only be in Washington twice a year for a month stretch each time tops.

They can stay at hotels....or build a govt Hostel......barebones so they want to go back home

I am unable to accept the idea that I should be an obedient subject of a gang of corrupt, unprincipled thugs who pontificate about freedom while enslaving the population.

Yep, and part time Congress, that only goes to DC once a year, the rest of the time should be spent telecommuting.

The TX legislature meets every other year. They seem to be doing quite well.

They should be made to stay in one of Washington DC's housing projects, Potomac Gardens, Barry Farms, Sirsum Corda.... which are like a microcosm of a war zone. Let them see what their Democratic policies have wrought.

We can ad that or similar amendment to the list of proposed Article 5 convention of states proposed amendments.

If I might play the Devil's Advocate; Rich Congressmen can pay their own expenses and afford to be in Washington doing the work of the Devil as much as such work may require. I am rather uncomfortable with having the Representatives we sent to Washington to represent us only being individuals who are wealthy enough to be able to support their homes and families in their home districts and not bat an eye at the cost of housing Washington DC.  In the great scheme of things, it's not a whole lot of money.

If we want to have good, conservative fighters in Washington, then we need to have regular, everyday neighbors who may not have the means to even compete with the wealthy Elites of the Swamp.

I'm not sure, but this point needs some consideration.

We are able to send our Representatives from our districts every two years.  Why don't we have any regular every day people in Congress?  Do they all have to be lawyers and millionaires?

It's supposed to be a privilege and a public service.  Not a get-rich scheme or luxurious experience.

They should have cots in their office, or some sort of semi-private dormitory.  They already have a fancy gym and locker room to shower in, and an equally nice dining room.  They really should live in a similar manner to our military, not like the Queen of England.

They should really have a cubicle farm instead of lavish offices, too.

Somebody needs to just run for congress and senate with these stated values / goals -

-As stated above
-Tighter term limits
-Age limits
-6 months in DC, 6 months at home with constituency / mandatory town halls and planning meetings
-Enforce insider trading and similar laws of ethics / morality

The politicians in DC may all hate you, but I'll bet the voters may just go for it.  I'd love to get elected just to go up there and be an outcast, say exactly what I think about everybody and everything they do.  Have no plans to be re-elected, blow it out in one term and make that a calling card as well.  Tell all the lobbyists to f-off, publicly, as well.

You may actually get shot by somebody !

Many of them do "have cots in their office" and ...

this is not for himself... Jason Chaffetz said this on the way out the door...

" but before going, the Utah Republican gave an exit interview to the Hill on Tuesday in which he bemoaned the costs that members of Congress bear in splitting their time between Washington and their home states. "Washington, DC, is one of the most expensive places in the world, and I flat-out cannot ..."

" To top it off, Chaffetz has been one of those guys who sleeps on a rollaway cot in his office rather than test the waters of DC's cutthroat real-estate market. At least 40 other House members share this habit, "

Only if it was against the law and they did not have to work in the stand.

Isn't it ironic, I think that is the same $ amount to house a federal convict. Maybe we can come up with a solution for the same $ amount.

Ignore this troll, it came in and puked a bunch of outdated articles all over the forum, I left a couple.
This troll does not have the ability to gather its thoughts and debate actual points, so it's pissed that it was banned, and now it comes by like like lawn snails to be stepped on after a rain.
