Unless there's a HUGE tragedy involving a lunatic with a firearm, these people have no chance at all of swaying the American people. Recall that the landmark (and unconstitutional) Gun Control Act of 1968 was enacted just five years after JFK's assassination, and the same year that RFK and MLK were gunned down.

I have sympathy for Carolyn McCarthy in her tragedy, and for those who suffered losses in Arizona, but I am NOT willing to sacrifice my rights and liberties because she thinks I should.

This is the part that worries me.

Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, told CNN that he also plans to take legislative action. He will introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.

I know this is because of the Sarah Palin site which had nothing to do with this shooting. ::) ::) But does that mean anything used on a forum such as this could be taken as a threat and be a crime... :o

Keep in mind it's been a long, loooong drought for the likes of Robert Brady and Carolyn McCarthy. They're going to be on any opportunity like a duck on a June bug and the bodies strewn around that strip mall in Tucson spell O-P-P-O-R-T-U-N-I-T-Y to them.

With that out of the way, they' won't get squat. The Repubs aren't going to start off the new session by being derailed by an issue unrelated to the main reasons they're sitting where they are. The most Brady and McCarthy can hope for is that the balance of the Democratic party is willing to try to use the tragedy as a speed bump to throw in front of the Republican majority.

I'll go out on a bit of a limb and predict there won't be much support for anti-Second Amendment bills that resulted from this shooting.

I agree, not only will her bill fail, but this will be that last we ever hear of it.
I say that, because as more info comes out about this nut, the more the leftists will realize, he was one of their very own nut cases and in no way influenced by the Right.

They own this Monster, and it turned on them.
