For any of these statistics to have any real meaning, the degrees need to be broken down into areas of study. Not to denigrate women as a group, I would be willing to bet a lot of the lead in degrees awarded women compared to men come out of the soft "sciences" and touchy-feely degrees in the various humanities, whereas the majority of degrees awarded men will be in engineering and hard sciences.  When it comes to associates degrees, men who do not pursue a 4-year degree are more likely to enter a trade program than a two-year college.
