OK, here's the run down. We're supposed to have high off shore winds out of the East N/E. This is normal, but the states reaction is anything but! (PUC, Public Utilities Commission)
Thing is, the Ca PUC sets the rules for a private business, but in Ca, there is no such thing when it comes to utilities. For decades the state has gotten in bed with PG&E utility, in the process the Dims got kickbacks from the utility for a trade off in not having to maintain their lines as per law.
Think Camp Fire in Paradise Ca, and while you're at it, think Oroville dam catastrophe, and it's all thanks to the PUC and the corruption of the left.
So what do they do in place of maintaining power lines? They just shutoff the power. What about the children...Homeless?

The Latest on power outages in California (all times local):

6:30 a.m.

Pacific Gas and Electric has shut off power to more than half a million customers in Northern California in the biggest planned shut off in the state's history.

The utility said Wednesday it will gradually turn off electricity to nearly 800,000 customers to prevent its equipment from starting wildfires during hot, windy weather.

It says a second group of about 234,000 customers will lose power starting at noon.

The utility says it's considering turning off power to another 42,000 customers in areas it serves near Southern California. It says it will determine a time and the specific locations later Wednesday.

Most grocery stores have a back up generator (here anyway) which will keep the computers and lights on but not large enough to power refrigeration. Are the powers to be going to open the doors on all the powerless grocery stores and let the homeless pig out? Has the all knowing powers to be decided who is going to pay for all the lost product? All I can say is wow. Does the city run on a different power line? How are they going to even keep the traffic lights working? Has anybody thought this out?

Bronx

AOC and the global warming freaks are going to be pissed when all homeowners and business use backup generators that burn diesel or gas putting all these pollutants into the air....how dare they.

Just another example of unintended consequences by the left.

But, and there is a but. Those that deliver to the stores won't be able to buy fuel, so forget restocking once supplies run out. No, the "powers that be" never consider the consequences before they act, too late.

Think Soviet era breadlines.

What a gas station with no back up generator.  Even Washington State is not that dumb.

Oddly enough, I live in one of those protected areas of the State because our mountains are a communication hub for the entire state, be it satellite of microwave repeaters for fire , sheriff etc.
Many here in my county have enjoyed the idea that the power would never be turned off, so none of the businesses got backup power.
Well, they were lied to.

To be honest with you I can't keep up with California. I'm glad we have Solar to give us the laughs of his own state when they hold their circus events like this. Turning off the power of thousands of people than turn around and tell them people that they are the scum of the earth for using fossil fuels like gas and diesel to keep their lights on.

Hell,.....I don't know how he does it. I would have packed my crap alone time ago. People like him are what is needed to keep the whack jobs in California in check and bring us a good laugh from time to time.

Now can we laugh at Tesla owners? With the power out, I suspect there will be a lot of "Bricks", (dead batteries ) sitting in garages tonight.

Son in law lives there and bought one, really nice cars, but if you run them dead and don't get them a charge, it can lead to a battery replacement.
I love how the left is banning new gas installation in the Bay area, that's Right, no gas, electricity only.
Then they cut the power.

The moron Governor (Pelosi is Newsom's aunt) had the audacity to claim that Ca has been in a boom, but it's ending.
What world does he live in, where the populace abandons their homes to get away from leftist policy, is considered a good thing?
Trump called him on it and this was the idiot child's response.
(Keep in mind, this was the day before the State turned off the power. Let this be a lesson for you libs, this is what you advocate, a strong arm state that can simply shut off the power, or anything else they want to do , all in the name of the environment.)

Gavin Newsom
@GavinNewsom
You have no credibility on this issue. You're trying to gut our emissions laws. Deny climate change. And wreck our environment by burning the dirtiest possible energy sources.

But yeah, those electric vehicles we're encouraging car companies to manufacture sure are gas guzzlers!

Gasoline Prices in the State of California are MUCH HIGHER than anywhere else in the Nation ($2.50 vs. $4.50). I guess those very expensive and unsafe cars that they are mandating just aren't doing the trick! Don't worry California, relief is on the way. The State doesn't get it!

Ya'll want a laugh, this is what people in Ca think of this idiot.

Poor widdle baby... Screw you, you freakin Marxist, no one gives a shit about your wine!!!

When elitists Whine about their wine

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom vented his frustrations Wednesday that widespread power shut-offs by Pacific Gas and Electric Co. were affecting his wineries, raising questions about how much he has separated himself from the business holdings he placed into a blind trust before taking office.

"I've got a bunch of businesses that are impacted," Newsom said during a bill-signing ceremony in San Diego on Wednesday when he was asked why he said Californians should be "outraged" by the wave of blackouts.

"I'd rather criticize Donald Trump than act like him talking about my businesses in Northern California," the governor said, "but we're in the middle of wine crush and folks are running around trying to get generators right now, in the middle of crush. I mean, it's very consequential."

In an effort to keep its equipment from sparking wildfires in high winds, PG&E initiated power outages Wednesday that could last for days and hit 650,000 to 700,000 residences and businesses.
