New Jersey's largest city plans to test Universal Basic Income

New Jersey's largest city plans to test whether universal basic income is feasible, making it the latest government to flirt with a program that would guarantee income for residents whether or not they have a job.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka announced his decision last week to create a task force and pilot program to study whether the program is possible.

"We believe in Universal Basic Income, especially in a time where studies have shown that families that have a crisis of just $400 a month may experience a setback that may be difficult, even impossible to recover from," Baraka reportedly said, adding that one-third of the city still lives in poverty.

Talk about a liberal circle jerk. Can you imagine the makeup of the task force? Their findings and how this program is funded will be interesting.

Maybe, just maybe the libs will bail on Ca and head back East? One can hope it will be a huge magnet for the lazy of the nation.

This of course will fail but I would think the best places to do this would be cities that actually have money.

Unfortunately I live in North Jersey and I spend a lot of time in Newark for business reasons. Most of that money will go to drugs. Newark has a MASSIVE drug problem. Particularly heroin and opioids. The city is a toilet. It stinks because the sewers are blocked from all the litter, there are boarded up homes everywhere and people slumped over garbage cans and post boxes because they are out of it. It is not uncommon to see people laying on the pavement because they are too out of it to get up. Just more money pissed away on feel good ideas and the mayor is probably eyeing a bigger office.

My friend used to do long haul trucking, he said he hated going there every month because the place smelled like kitty litter, he said it literally smelled so bad that he'd sleep in his truck out of town to escape it. Is that true?

It smells like a combination of skunk, cigarettes and ass. It's everywhere. On the streets and in the shops. Even the hotels. The only place it doesn't smell bad is the airport because the stink is overpowered by the smell of jet fuel.

He did mention an essence of skunk as well, he said the smell was indescribable, that it just permeates everything, which is why he didn't like to stay in town, because it took days as it was to air out the stench.
He said he always assumed it was due to industry in the area, but now it makes sense, and I can only imagine it's even worse now.

The thing is it isn't always constant. Sometimes it sneaks up on you and smacks you in the face like a sledgehammer. You find yourself asking yourself "woah! why does the produce department suddenly smells like Satan's backside.
