More then once our state has voted NO but the city or state has done it over the no vote.

EXACTLY Dan. Now multiply the repercussions to the 10th. Power, IF it were a Republican being Quoted as such. This "One Way Street" that the Left has so successfully been able to run with, has gotten' progressively out of control. Culminating at this point, ( and have no doubt it will get worse ) as a "Slap on the Wrist" as opposed to the Gas Chamber.
Now if you look back over the last 40 + years, it becomes blatantly obvious as this seemingly "Insignificant" dynamic has been a Major Tool in the liberal "Playbook". While "Masquerading" as the Party of the People, has allowed them to invoke enough "Significant"empathy in acquiring the leverage needed in getting a free pass on "Significant" issues such as this. While relatively suttelly "Insignificant" in practice, it acquires an accumulation of "Significant" minor victories that have resulted in an advantage that has cost the Right "Significantly".

Any party that still lionizes a Vietnam draft-dodger like Bubba Dropdrawers can not be taken seriously when it tries to wage a war. Obama announcing a surge (and a withdrawal date) in the same speech MAY, however, have set a new record for the brainlessness involved.

As for base closures, it evades blowback for incumbents when you have commissions to do the dirty work for you. I'm also sure that SOMEONE has to tell a community they are losing their life's-blood, as what happened when NAS Sanford, Florida closed down ... and just a few years later became a major hub for Disney-related traffic out of nearby Orlando. Not all base closures are bad, in other words.
