Broward Sheriff Scott Israel tells staff he's being suspended over Parkland response

He''s lying, it wasn't just over the shooting, it has more to do with corruption, and no, I have no proof, but the truth will come out.

It appears that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is preparing to pack up his office.

The two-term sheriff, the object of fierce criticism over BSO's handling of the Parkland massacre, told his top commanders that he will be removed from office by Gov. Ron DeSantis, sources have told the Miami Herald.

"What I will say is we want someone who will remove politics out of police work and commit to protecting the citizens and our children in the schools,'' Bell said.

There were unconfirmed reports that Israel's undersheriff, Steve Kinsey, had resigned. The sheriff's communications office did not respond to requests for comment.

Israel, 61, has vowed to fight any effort to strip him of his office. He maintains that while mistakes were made in responding to the shootings, they were not serious enough to warrant his suspension or removal from office.

Israel has long defended his agency's actions on Feb. 14, 2018, when 17 people — 14 of them students — were slain by a gunman in what is considered the worst mass high school shooting in U.S. history.

A state panel investigating the massacre released a 458-page report last week that detailed how the killer, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, was able to shoot so many victims inside the freshman building at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High.

Hmm.
I did not think Gov. Ron DeSantis can remove a sheriff, as he is not  appointed he/she is elected by the people.  I would say the people would need to recall a sheriff.

That was my understanding as well, but I think some states have a provision in their Constitutions that allow for it.

Not only did it come out...it has been out. I read this article a few weeks ago and forgot about it until you just mentioned it.

Here is his corruption laid out in black and white.

Fla.: The Sheriff, the Sheriff's Son, and the 'Coward of Broward'

Parents of children gunned down in the Parkland school shooting in Florida last year have never understood two actions taken by Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel: his refusal to fire a campus-based deputy who failed to enter the school during the rampage that took 17 lives, and his continued defense of controversial Obama-era school policies that allowed the  accused shooter, Nikolas Cruz, to avoid arrest and a police record and thereby purchase the murder weapon.

Some now think they have found the answer in a single incident that occurred in 2014. A police report shows that's when Israel's then-17-year-old son, Brett, was accused of participating in a sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas  High School.

The case was investigated by Scot Peterson -- the armed deputy who took cover while children and staff were shot last February. Using the Obama-era guidelines, Peterson's recommendation helped his boss's son receive just a three-day suspension.

"Everyone in this county is wondering why Peterson was allowed to retire so quickly and take his pension," said local attorney Alex Arreaza, who represents victims of the school tragedy. "Normally deputies  would not be allowed to retire under those circumstances, but in this case, Peterson was allowed to. This report gives a plausible reason," he said.

People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A foolish man complains about his torn pockets.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.
