I am with you, Boo. It is kind of sad to me to see McConnell and Reid going at each other before the man is buried.

And at the same time an Obama Supreme Court appointment would be devastating to this country.

What's at stake from his passing?

Public unions were on their last legs, abortion "rights" were tightening, and Obamacare now stands a good chance of becoming permanent.

Not only that, but the Senate has to sign off on any nominee Obozo may try to put forward.

Personally I am not expecting he'll be replaced by Obozo.

IF the RNC were smart, Repubics in the Senate will delay any confirmation hearings until AFTER the next election.

Giving their side of the aisle a chance to do the nominating instead. All of which would be moot if A, judges were elected and B, had term limits.

Bozo would definitely go off the reserve by NOT appointing a new judge.  What do we know about Bozo?  This much, whatever the Americans want-he goes against.  Let no event go by wasted.  He'll most likely try to do his thing on this too.  He has no shame.

It is still less than 24 hours since we have learned of Scalia's death. RIP to an outstanding jurist. We now have the initial responses. One thing for sure, this event is a setback for us conservatives. We not only have lost the most conservative member of the SC, but it places the GOP in an unenviable situation from a political standpoint. So far I am encouraged that McConnell and even Graham have come out opposed to allowing Obama make the replacement appointment. I hope they stick by these utterances. That being said, the democrats and MSM will demagogue the GOP for delaying and use it as an argument for the 2016 elections.

Obama will do all he can to politicize this and has proven he can be effective in these efforts. I can foresee a Holder appointment and then start beating the "racist" drums to hopefully energize the Black vote for Hillary. Also, do not put it past Obama to try to create a constitutional crisis over the appointment. All this makes our challenge a little more difficult.

No shame? Dems are fundraising already.

The saddest thing about Justice Scalia's passing I think is this.

That so many Americans think he was such a great justice because
he believed in upholding the Constitution as written,
he believed in original intent,
and oh yeah, didn't believe courts had any place legislating from the bench.

I'm sorry but those are something which SHOULD be a given.

It's like calling someone a great ballplayer because he knows where home plate is.

(The point being that there are some on the Court who don't "know where home plate is.")

Who do you think Trump will appoint?

I'm very pessimistic about a Trump presidency. As soon as he is in office I think he drifts to Left and models himself a centrist "deal maker". I can totally see him throwing conservatives under the bus by nominating a lukewarm closet liberal who might have a conservative stance or two but will ultimately vote with the court's Liberals much of the time on big cases, much like Anthony Kennedy.

I don't see Trump as anything politically.  He's a populist and in it for himself.

Well, I called this one too:

QuoteDefying demands from leading Republicans, President Barack Obama pledged Saturday evening to nominate a Supreme Court justice to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) vowed Sunday on ABC's This Week to filibuster any nominee President Obama puts forth to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court bench.

"This is a 5-4 court — the next election needs to be a referendum on the court," Cruz said. "People need to decide."

I don't think that's the least bit surprising, or even particularly objectionable on the face of it. He has somewhat of an obligation to his party and his supporters to make the gesture. What really matters is how the Senate reacts. For once, I think McConnell has it right. Just flat out stonewall and keep making the argument that it should be a choice for the American people to make at the ballot box. Don't budge an inch. Don't even negotiate.

The President nominates and the Senate gets to approve.

There have been 12 rejected, last one to be rejected was Robert Bork appointed by Reagan.

Bush did appoint Harriet Miers but she withdrew.
