Title: Boycott Dick's Sporting Goods
Post by: kramarat on February 17, 2013, 11:00:32 AM
I think so.

It's time to borrow a page from the left and withdraw support of businesses that support a socialist regime over the US constitution.

If I ever shopped there, I wouldn't again. I think MILLIONS will make that choice. THIS is the sort of news item I was talking about for a newsletter to distribute in your local area. I doubt the masses whho get their news from the MSM know anything about this.

I think I may work on a flyer this evening to put on some local bulletin boards.

It's happening. I think conservatives, (including myself), are realizing that a live and let live attitude is a losing proposition.
We have to engage and fight........even though it goes against our core beliefs.

Especially with this one.  It's just too important of a topic.  I spend a lot of time and money at Dick's, but not anymore.  This is like a breakup for me.

I'm not sure a boycott is needed. The free market should end up killing them..

A boycott may help move that process much faster.

Here's how I was thinking about it: we all saw what a somewhat united statement is made with Chick-Fil-A last year.  With Dick's, we don't even need anywhere that turnout.  Just a small percentage of Dick's customers of the Chick-Fil-A customers last year decide to stop shopping at Dick's, they will really feel it.  Just a modest tweak will really get their attention I think.

I am curious as to where Dicks has their shops. We have one here near the mall. If they are in more rural states they are shooting themselves in the left foot...

Dick's sporting goods didn't need another strike against them in my area.  Over priced for starters.

There's one just south of Toledo off I-75, and this place will probably wind up seriously hurting. That entire area is riddled with sportsmen and home-protection gun-buyers. On the other hand the Toledo Blade will probably name them Responsible Business of the Year.

Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan should probably do very well, taking up the slack.

No. It wouldn't be an organized boycott with picket signs and stuff. Just making the decision not to shop there, is the free market at work.

We've got several around here. I don't shop there much because they are a ripoff, but they do have an awesome tackle section.

Exactly. I was also making the Chick-fil-A connection. No need for a organized boycott as I believe cons will understand and make their own decision not to shop at Dick's. This is truly a dumb move against a large portion of their customer base. The difference with Chick-fil-A is the customer base pretty much supported what the executive said.

Don't just say "ho-hum the market will take care of it", as always.

Sue the life out of them.  Start with class action for the buyers, oh about 300 million.

Then the manufacturer, another 300 million.

THEN the boycott & whatever else.

It's time to NOT do the same old ho-hum.  Destroy this liberal garbage monolith, just as the liberals would do for anything we approve of.

Want to give away the 2nd  ?  Just ignore this and let the liberals walk away laughing about another sneaky kick in our nuts.  Time to kick back instantly, and effing HARD.

Why would we sue the manufacturers?

No....the manufacturer suing the Dick's.

They note in the story that they had a contract for distribution of the product, which the manfr. had built their whole process / model around.

I heard they're the biggest in the world.  They bought Galyan's some years ago, which was my fave...

What sucks is they also own Golf Galaxy.  I always run (used to run) to Dick's or GG to pick up some golf balls, or try out putters and new clubs.  I'd by my work out stuff there, golf stuff, shoes, clothes, and just a whole bunch of stuff.  I guess I have to start going back to Sports Authority.

It was a big sporting goods store chain, like Dick's.

This is the very reason I quit buying at K-Mart, they did away with guns as well.

I don't really have a problem with someone deciding not to carry guns, but the way Dick's did it was just dirty.

Not to mention, stupid. Gun and ammo sales are going through the roof.

The entire country is buying the stuff up, and they decide to cave to the leftists. Bad idea.

I agree with Andrew on this one.  Dicks did not stop selling guns which I think would have been a better choice than just choosing not to sell a particular type of gun.  I used to go to Dick's on occasion, more for golf stuff than hunting but bought some hunting and ammo there.  There prices were a bit high and their selection was pretty odd so it was not my main go to store for hunting but after this I think it is important to stop buying anything there.  I think that if the management of Dicks were able to directly see the impact this decision had on their sales they might do a rethink on it.   I think it is important to not buy anything there and think that a letter to management saying that you will never buy from them again because of this decision will get their attention.

I think if all sportsman clubs and gun clubs got coordinated and encouraged their membership to not shop there and to send a letter you would see some quick changes take place at Dicks.  If I were them I would reverse my decision.  Most Tactical guns are sold out for 1 or 2 years at least.  By then this will have blown over or a ban will be in place.  Maybe someone can get the NRA involved. With potentially 10 million members a drive by them would certainly cause Dick's to at least review the matter.
