Krugman: Perfect example of how the far left frames the debt ceiling issue

"Should President Obama be willing to print a $1 trillion platinum coin if Republicans try to force America into default?"
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/07/be-ready-to-mint-that-coin/

Not even going into the topic of the article, but a comment on his aside, "if Republicans try to force America into default".  The way the left views things is the Democrats are doing what is right but the Republicans will be blamed if they don't cave to the debt ceiling without demanding spending reform.

The Republican response needs to be very clear:  The Democrats in the Senate have not passed a budget proposal in 4 years, which is against the law, the Congressional Budget Act of 1974.  They have avoided suggesting a budget because they don't want to advocate any spending reform that would pass the scrutiny of the CBO.  Even the dumbest of the citizens should be able to understand you don't increase your credit line if you can't even put together a budget.

The Republican position should be clear.  The Democrats need to propose a budget with spending cuts before the debt ceiling can be increased.  Pure and simple.  And all Obama's expected threats to stop Granny's Social Security checks and payments to soldiers will not get them out of proposing a budget.

IMHO the GOP should come out right now and begin making their case. Obama is going to be on the "campaign trail" disparaging the pubs. If Boehner and McConnell don't start making their case now the GOP will be blamed again for shutting down the government. Make Obama and his clowns make the hard decisions on what to shut down. We have plenty of incoming revenue to service the debt.

I agree that they need to go on the offensive right now.  Everyday they should be explaining or detailing how wasteful a program or agency is.  Just list a few every time they talk.  The Dem's talk about some poor person that was put in a tough situation even if it was their own fault to justify spending billions. Someone lost their house because they did not understand that a variable loan can increase and when they were foreclosed on it was cold and they could not afford a jacket for their dog so there dog was cold when they were moved out.  Bo ho ho.

In just the cliff there was tons of money that we cannot afford.  Go across all the spending in the govt and I think the point will be made.   Hire a team of auditors and investigators and they would have so many examples of waste and fraud that the people in this country would certainly begin to understand that contrary to what Obama says the Fed govt has a problem with spending.

And someone please explain to me why the GOP is not all over some of the big fat opportunities that the Dem's handed them.

For example,  I remember the Dem's talking about all the savings that Obama care was going to enjoy when they cut down on the fees paid to doctors and health care facilities.  Well just recently the doctor fix was delayed.  I think that actually cutting what doctors gets would mean that getting help with a a medicaid or medicare health card would be impossible but that was clear when the Dem's said they would cut the cost this way.   But I did not hear a peep that Obama care costs go up with the extension of this doctor fix.

In my view unless the GOP starts acting like they believe in what they claim is their position and start protesting actions that are detrimental to cutting our deficit I will continue to suspect that they are a part of the problem and complicit in helping the Dems get what they want while acting as if they are appalled.

This is probably the BEST footing the GOP has had in 6-8 years.

Obama and pals got what they wanted / demanded, they didn't do their half of the bargain, dems didn't do their promised half in at least 3 earlier legislative battles, the GOP has the ceiling completely in their control (unless Obama tries to raise it by fascist fiat, which would be a major scare for the American people), somebody should be impeached for breaking the law regarding no budgets, and an insane, unsupportable idea like this coinage idea, along with the third term proposal.....should be a gigantic PR bonanza for the GOP.

If they can't raise hell and make great inroads with all this, right now, they are DONE forever.

The problem is the MSM doesn't care and blows it off as he had to do it because the republicans didn't do anything. Then there are the 53% of his followers who will lap it up and say see he had no choice.

The Dims want to increase the debt limit - which means they want to borrow more money? We shouldn't need to borrow more money to pay our current expenses - A POINT THE GOP NEEDS TO SLAM HOME OVER AND OVER AGAIN. The GOP should demand a budget because we'd really like to see what we're suppose to be spending all this Chinese money on and why we need to increase that amount, over and above what we're spending now.

Does anybody believe there are some dems in DC that are patriots and they are "biting their lips" about what Obama is doing?

No. Going along with Hussein is mutually exclusive with being a patriot.

If the Republicans wait to answer the Democratic attack, they will be seen as being on the defensive.  They need to be assertive and vocal now and use simple enough terms so that even many of the dummies who voted for Obama will understand.

At one time maybe, but now that he has been re-elected they see him as the MSM does and figure if they FOLLOW him they can't lose. In a few months it will be to late and political suicide to go against him in anyway.

The dems and MSM frame every topic and discussion.

That's one of the right's first problems.

As soon as the race card, or the granny-off-the-cliff, or making gramps and kiddies eat dogfood....get thrown onto the table....the right / GOP start begging them to stop and tell us what we need to do.
