As you open your pocketbooks for the next natural disaster, please keep these facts in mind:

The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans' salary for the year was $951,957 plus expenses.

The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $675,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,900,000 per year (158K) per month,

plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE. Less than 5 cents (4.4 cents) per donated dollar goes to the cause.

The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.

The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

 The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary.

Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
 The Disabled American Veterans National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary.

I will add that the Elk Lodges across our nation hold many events

each year to support all veterans, needy families and high school

seniors with scholarship monies at no costs to the participants.

UNIcef is a given and I was raised to give to the Salvation Army, not goodwill.
I learned about the United Way when I worked for Price Club and was forced to join the union, and they forcibly take your money for them, then the  United Way supports union causes.
I was soo pissed.
Now I only give locally to Veterans groups and other causes like the local shelter and the animal shelter.

I remember back during my working career when the United Way started their drives every year and came up with "your fair share".  What a firestorm that caused.  They had the designations for the monies collected on a list and said that this is where the money was sent.  The problem was in the list as many of us didn't want to support some of the names or groups on the list.  They finally said that the donor could designate where they wanted their contributions to go.  By that time< I had already settled my contributions to go to church missions and/or disabled veterans and their dependants.

I remember that! There were all sorts of B.S. organizations on their list - theater groups, artists studios etc, etc. I haven't given to the United Way in years!

Ain't that the truth and I didn't even know about the salariies that these people got.  Sometimes common sense just takes over and lets you see these groups as they are-maggots, working in every thing that smells like money.  One of our office workers got a job over the United Way Chapter in Sptbg. SC and that was back in the early '90's.  She was going to leave her payroll job with Phillip's Pet. so that she could concentrate fully on her new job.  Imagine that!  Quitting her job with her much needed salary to do volunteer work for a supposed non-profit organization!  That was my first clue that there might be a fox in the henhouse.  I knew the old gal personally and she just wasn't the giving type.
