Because .gov is paying them to find what .gov wants to be found, they will continue to find it by whatever means leads to more .gov research grants. Those who do not find what .gov wants do not get published, nor receive additional funding.

Why focus on climate change, which is centuries up the road?

Further up the road is a greater catastrophe, the sun will run out of hydrogen and swell into a red giant, engulfing earth.

And, even further up thr road, hundreds of thousands of years from now, Andromeda will collide with the Milky Way,

You have about the same chance of stopping both these events as you do stopping a potential ice age or warming period.

People don't realize just how many people entered the newly created field of "Green/environmental Research" and just how many are about to be removed from a taxpayer subsidized field when trump reigns in the EPA and cuts external Green funding.

They'll flood DARPA with military-application proposals, or BAE or any of a number of other big time arms makers. If they're good nobody will care if they live in a basement and wear pajamas.
