The Third Amendment prohibits, during times of peace, the quartering of soldiers on private property and in private homes without the consent of the owner.

In other words, Martial Law would be required first, and if that occurred, you can bet the Militia would be at the ready.
Which is testament to always having a well trained militia.

You said the government shouldn't post soldiers in the homeland.  I took that to mean the government can't based soldiers on CONUS land at all alike to saying places like fort still or fort drum can't station any federal troops.

The majority of our forces are abroad, something like 90%. You can't have a military without homebase support, these are support personnel, not the actual fighting units.

It isn't quite that high http://time.com/4075458/afghanistan-drawdown-obama-troops/. Even during the Bush years units usually only had a third of their strength overseas with the remainder either resting from deployment or getting ready to be redeploy again.

No doubt things have changed in the past 45+ years since I was in. Considering Congress no longer recognizes the Constitution beyond that of a guide of suggestions, I'm really not surprised in the least.
When I was in, when your deployment was over, you got R&R and a new overseas assignment, and a little leave if you had any accrued.
But a Stateside assignment was gold and few were lucky to get one.

Well seeing this thread has the most responses of any over the past few days must mean you guys have somme interest in the topic.  That is good.  Thank you for the interest.

So I have learned some things during my time here and I think I have a better understanding about what some of you believe so I appreciate you telling me that and for the dialogue where it has occurred one sided as it has been always interesting nonetheless.


So do you think the topic applies to all of us?  Including you?  Or do you think this is just an affliction those on the left have because we lacked enough oxygen at birth or we were brainwashed by the Communist in Chief Our Lord and Savior the Marxist Muslim Hussien Obama?


My view is if you cannot understand, and even defend both sides of an issue, you really don't understand the issue.


Frankly my view is we are all creatures of habit and most hate change some to the point they get physically ill just thinking about change.  Meaning most decisions are made with emotion.  Only by overcoming that emotion can we ever progress which we have done in our history when we have made decisions based on fact and data such as with civil rights and gay rights for two.

Those who dig in and resist working together are doomed to be marginalized and limited to the fringe where they will live out their lives in a howling bitter diatribe against mankind moving into the future.  And be left behind.
