It kinda makes me happy. Too bad they'll get back pay. They have NO concern for the TENS OG MILLIONS without jobs under this damn administration.

Yes. You're supposed to care about your fellow citizens.

A government program or government depart may be pointless and draining money, doesn't mean I don't care about the people working within them. I'm not celebrating that they aren't getting paid.

They're probably paid 5 times what red earns plus benefits. They will get all back pay when they go back in a few days. Meanwhile,  TENS OF MILLIONS wait for the next president so they have a chance to work again.

Does it not strike you as odd, that more than a million govt employees are actually nonessential?
In other words, these are "Make Work" programs that should never have been created in the first place.

How is it even possible to say that yet?  It's only been two days.  You really think they can't a job can't function so much that these workers can't take vacation or everything stops immediately?

Jesus you guys are so brain dead here.

I'm with you on this one.  It's ticking me off how some are seizing on a term and deeming an entire group as being leeches.  It stems from not really understanding government staffing and the unfortunate terminology that Uncle Sam often chooses to use.  Those that "protect life and property" are essential.  Others that don't directly do that are regrettably called non-essential which gives rise to the cheap shots that are being taken at them.

I addressed non-essential on another thread so I won't again other than to say that I work as a contractor on a military base.  I dare say that those being lableled leeches and besmirched are hard working folks being severely hurt by this shutdown.  This idea that they are automatically are going to be "backpayed" is so errant.  Getting any back pay right is one big "if".

I think what so many on the left, such as yourself, don't understand is, it's not so much that these employees are pawns in all of this.
The real problem is excessive govt, positions that should never exist, for every agency created, even the tiniest, has a myriad of positions created.
Even if the staff is just three, it requires hiring a budget staff, a safety officer etc, so the issue isn't that these employees are nonessential, but rather that many of the offices they work in are.

Those are the ones that should have been furloughed.
Question, do you think the commiecare employees were furloughed today, are they essential?
From hat I've seen so far, they aren't able to do anything because the system isn't ready.

Now you're cooking with gas.  Yes there is waste and we should question waste as well as fraud.   My only issue is with this across-the-board idea that all governemnt workers are leeches and if you happened to be furloughed you are deemed by those not in the know as not deserving to have had the job to begin with.

Take one simple example, the groundskeepers.  They are non-essential right now but sooner or later the grass has to be cut, the bushes trimmed, the garbage emptied, the parking lots cleaned, offices cleaned, windows washed, gutters cleared, etc.   Temporarily non-essential, yes.    Unnecessary?    Not over the long run.

I'm left just for pointing out obvious B.S?  "Even if the staff is just three it requires hiring a budget staff,  a safety officer etc."     That's more plain old B.S, you have no idea what you're talking about.  Prove me wrong, provide a source.

Thanks.  I completely understand there can be waste in government operation and that should be addressed where found.  These over arching generalizations here are just ludicrous.
