The so-called representatives of the American minorities are frequently the enemy of the minorities. The objective is that any minority that produces the same level of result as a non-minority should receive equal opportunity in America. No white privilege or bias against the minority. I don't know a single white born after 1980 that would disagree with that statement.

I can't even believe what I'm reading. Excerpts:

University of Illinois interim Provost John Wilkin told Fox News that Gutierrez is an established and admired scholar who has been published in many peer-reviewed publications. ... Gutierrez says evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than their white counterparts ... "

If any field is unquestionably neutral when it comes to race, it's mathematics. There are only two kinds of answers to most math problems - right and wrong. Whether you are black, white, yellow, or blue, it doesn't matter. Privilege is earned in mathematics by demonstrating the ability to apply the subject - that is, the privilege to take the next course or advance in the mathematical field. And whomever discovers new Theorems (truths which are the grail of any research mathematician) are valued whatever race they are. Privilege is earned - imagine that.

But, ok, the article isn't just talking about research math - it's mentions algebra and geometry. There are many jobs that you can qualify for without either, but it is usually a part of a core curriculum because it encourages basic problem solving. Even though most don't use it, most do benefit from the experience of abstract problem solving. And some areas require such skills to perform the basic function.

How can Gutierrez keep a job at a university with such a non-sense outlook. She demonstrates her ignorance and is the worst form of racist - making excuses that weaken her constituents. I think she is Hispanic - so a lawsuit liability waiting to happen if someone actually replaces her with someone that actually teaches mathematics to all - including the minorities. I looked at a list of some of her publications and all are political - not a solid math publication in the bunch.

When I did my math work, I did work with women and saw some real abuse. Strong abilities but abused by professors that insisted on academic ability versus useful pragmatic ability. Some were minorities. Some white men suffered the same abuses. So good students who could build the field were chased away. If someone insists on working the politics of universities and mathematics, this is where there's gold to be mined. Not the continued dumbing down of the field, but matching abilities that individuals demonstrate in the field to uses in the industry. The US loses many good people in mathematics to the arrogance of some professors - and we have a shortage in this area.

The big thing now is white folk can't discuss or be involved in minority stuff, because that's "cultural appropriation"......... but they also can't be involved in "white stuff" because that's obviously celebrating privilege and white supremacy.

We'll just keep having to listen to this infantile crap, for as long as we put up with it.  Giving in never begets anything except the next level of stupid.  They laugh out loud, and just can't believe that they're allowed to get away with each level, but they're happy to let "their enemy" step in it each time.

All it deserves any more is a big "FU, shut up".  I guess we'll see who finds their gonads first.
