I un-installed Firefox, and I'm posting this using the Opera browser.  It trails behind Chrome, IE, and Firefox in market share, but has steady growth, and has over 200mm users, which ain't too shabby.  They've been around for a while, and ride Chrome's coattails with the Blink engine.  They aligned with Chrome's browser technology, and after this Firefox clusterf*, I'd expect them to get a little growth spurt.

So far, it works OK.  Here's their site: http://www.opera.com/

I downloaded Chromium and it fucked up everything, just as if it had a virus attached, I may have to do a rollback to fix the damage it did.
I'll give Opera another shot, tried it last year and didn't care for it.

I've been looking for an alternative for a while now, not because of this ridiculous queers-are-utterly-intolerant BS, but because I've never been a Firefox fan, and I'm less than thrilled with the nose-diving performance of successive Chrome upgrades. I run Chrome on three different machines right now; one runs XP Pro, one Win7 and one Win8. On all three, Chrome is fast becoming the top challenger (to the current champ, Avast) for the title of Penultimate Resource Hog. Running the latest version of Chrome is the hard-drive equivalent of an Olympic decathlon. I haven't seen smoke yet, but it wouldn't surprise me.

This graphic from StatCounter shows some pretty strong trending in browser usage (though Opera appears to be, uh, sorta lounging down there at around 1-2%...), especially the upswings in Chrome, Safari, and other mobile browsers, to the obvious catastrophic (and oh-so-richly deserved) detriment of IE and, to a lesser extent, to Firefox, which has been falling in market share for a while now.



It will be interesting to see how the trends on this graphic change (or don't) in coming months. In any case, I believe I'll do my part and give Opera a whirl also.

Yeah, it pretty much is the viable choice at this point.  Chrome works fine on my machine, but I don't like using them.  Opera has its quirks so far, but I'm willing to use through those while they improve.  Building and bringing a new browser to market is too much of an endeavor.  Chrome is an anomaly.

I have IE8 on this Win7 PC, but have to go into "programs" to launch it. On the taskbar is Firefox, Opera, and Avast. I use Avast for email.

My Opera was acting up, so I did an uninstall reinstall and the result was
an Opera nothing like the previous one. Oh, I also have an Opera Developer copy. The new Opera looks something like that. I lost all my bookmarks doing the uninstall.

So, browser wars continue.
I am told the typical web page contains 96 https, meaning 96 trips to and from the ads and various hangers on, such as data miners, profilers, usage monitors,
all that stuff. I am supposed to have security, but judging from the ads I get after visiting around, there is no way I am keeping them at bay.

I hope Mozilla survives, That foundation served a good purpose.

I think of Mozilla as a privacy advocate, with a lot
of add ons such as script blocker.

As long as it's their privacy that's not being invaded.
I believe they crossed the line on this one, seeing how they claim to protect free speech, as long as it doesn't disagree with their views.

It's only day 1 for me, but I actually really like it so far.  They have a nice extensions directory, and it loads and renders smoothly.  Tomorrow may be different, of course.

Probably a big boost, since Mozilla pulled this shit, and it's safe to say those that didn't have Chrome, was because they don't trust google, so they'll be looking for an alternative.

I use Chrome for Admin, so I don't have to log out and log back in all the time, but honestly, I hate it other than it's still a fast browser.

I am no fan of Chrome either, but I found it pretty good if you do the following:
1. stay logged off of the Google account
2. Install NoScript, AdBlockPlus, DoNotTrack, and CsFire extensions.  No popups, no adds, and  no tracking for the most part.

Thanks for that. I just unistalled Chromium after a two day run.
I was under the impression it is an open source version of Chrome.
Very fast.
When I ran my usual malware scan today, there were 193 items, about
half designated "Google Chrome." I thought the two were separate.
I'll look into those add ons.

I might go the Richard Stallman way and just run wget for web browsing.

Kidding, but if I don't see any evidence of Opera moving forward with support on my OS, then I guess I'm stuck with Chrome.  Opera said they are planning new releases, and I'm not so sure about that.
