A campaign to declare the mass destruction of ecosystems an international crime against peace - alongside genocide and crimes against humanity - is being launched in the UK.

The proposal for the United Nations to accept "ecocide" as a fifth "crime against peace", which could be tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC), is the brainchild of British lawyer-turned-campaigner Polly Higgins.

The radical idea would have a profound effect on industries blamed for widespread damage to the environment like fossil fuels, mining, agriculture, chemicals and forestry.

Supporters of a new ecocide law also believe it could be used to prosecute "climate deniers" who distort science and facts to discourage voters and politicians from taking action to tackle global warming and climate change.

Does anyone think this silly campaign has a breath of a chance? I mean, even if you don't consider the fact that they're trying to get the U.N. involved, a body which has exactly how much credibility and power?

This is just the left engaging in its usual "let's throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" behavior some of which is pretty obviously never going to amount to anything.

The same was said when the GW movement started, but the UN funneled money into it.
But with that said, I have to agree on the basis since the UN lost all, or rather what little credibility they had left, over the climategate scandal.

But the Devil likes nothing better than for people to underestimate him.

I imagine he's probably partial to over-estimation as well and let's be honest, there's more then a thin streak of "Chicken Little"-ism on the right side of the political divide.

But the crucial difference between lefty and righty distopianism, and why I much prefer the right wing variety, is that a right wing distopian might get pretty passionate about which is the best chambering, and in which particular rifle, for when civilization comes crashing to an end but they aren't all that interested in making preperation for the Apocalypse a legal requirement.
