Title: A trillion-dollar coin?
Post by: PeterR on January 10, 2013, 10:59:34 AM
QuoteFor days, the press and the pundits were abuzz with the fanciful notion that maybe -- just maybe -- the Treasury Department could avert a standoff over the debt ceiling by minting a cure-all trillion-dollar coin.

That'll weigh your pants down.

Any road why bother? Why not just say we have the money? Why not just write an additional trillion dollars in the ledger. This is beyond insane. Actually it is childish.

I just went down to the shed and made this little coin out of carbon fiber. I have decided it is worth $292,604. It just so happens that is the price of  a new Aston Martin DBS. How lucky is that!

Now I'm gonna go and make some new coins because I need some groceries!

Some dems and Paul Krugman are actually serious about this. Can we get a take from the brilliant Ms. Pelosi?

It figures Krugman is serious about it.  Not many people are as clueless as Krugman on all things economy.

I heard somebody joke that they could just use bitcoins.

But sadly, if they think the GOP and public won't raise a ruckus......they'll probably do it.

They float these things, guage the response, if everybody's too busy to care or make much noise......they jump in it foursquare.

The stupidity of these people is getting overwhelming.

The day they start stamping trillion dollar coins, is the day that whatever dollars we have, become worthless paper. :cursing:

The fact that the ridiculous idea of a trillion dollar coin even came up just goes to show how completely ridiculous our current congress is.  You cut spending when you're deciding what to buy, not when the bill comes in.
