As a European I want to share with you Americans some personal stories from Socialist Europe, either as a reminder why American Conservatism is best (not that one is needed) and as ammunition against your liberal useful idiots of neighbours.

My family in Romania just had a baby boy, Romania like Norway have single payer healthcare where private healthcare is rare (only for the government rich) and it is supposedly free being financed by taxation.

After the birth there was some complications, my uncle the child's father was asked by the nurses to hurry to the store to buy some needles because they didn't have any, and as I understand the story the doctors basically butchered the baby in a desperate attempt to save it's life without medical equipment.  And this was a big state owned hospital.

Corruption is so rampant in this socialist nightmare that money supposedly going to medical equipment and even doctor salaries are "lost" in the administration. This boy whose life is just as important and special as all of us paid the ultimate price for being born in a free healthcare system.

QuoteEvery citizen of Romania is entitled to cost-free, unrestricted medical procedures, as established by a physician. Citizens of the European Union have the right to free emergency medical assistance.

So much for fancy promises of Utopia. I will never get to meet this family member of mine because of socialism, the funeral was last week.

My condolences to you and to your family.  The baby was sacrificed at the alter of Socialism.  I see our future in your family tragedy.  Obviously, this baby was wanted and loved.

But, too, I am horrified at the millions of babies which are killed before birth under the pretense of a "Woman's right to choose."  I am a woman and I support a "Woman's right to choose," but only before conception--not after.

Thanks,

That is true, millions of deaths of individuals who never had the chance to live because women's right to choose if it lives or dies trumphs it's right as an individual to live. Gosnell is not the exception, it is the new norm.

Condolences, God Bless.

The only bulwark against the corruption of socialism and the all-powerful state..........is the precise mix of a constitution that minimizes govt to almost non-existent, and allows for wide-open capitalism where open-public-transparent success is rewarded, not bureaucratic failure and corruption.........that the American Founders created.

Coupla points to consider...

Romania is merely one generation removed from Nicolae Ceaușescu and Soviet Communist domination and brutal economic plundering and political repression as a member of the Warsaw Pact. Vast improvements in many respects have taken place, but still, it's been just 25 years since the 1989 revolution. Unlike East Germany, which bootstrapped quickly with massive investment from West Germany as part of reunification, Romania stands alone.

Romania's economy simply cannot support a modern health care system provided by the government. According to the IMF, Romania's per capita GDP is the lowest of all EU members -- Romania is the foremost example of why the EU will never succeed in the long run. Romania ranks 74th worldwide, just barely above the global average. By that measure, Romania ranks lower than "third world" economies like those of Mexico and Kazakhstan and Botswana.

This is sad.  Government is not equipped to run heath care.  The private sector has done a good job in most ways.

We are #1 in health care for a reason.  And it's not GOVERNMENT control.

And as always, the more it sucks due to their incompetence and malfeasance, the more they'll just announce that it's somebody else's fault, and they just need more money and control for it to work.

Botswana is actually the only good African Country.

Romania's economy simply cannot support a modern health care system provided by the government because of communism which is socialism, end of story. Your facts only solidify the point that socialism doesn't work. Another point which you left out is that Romania has biggest concentration of gypsies in the world, these parasites thrived under Ceaușescu who gave them money for breeding more.

Romania has substantial amount of oil and energy production, you can't blame the economic ruin on lack of natural resources or simply on the fact that they are poor, they are poor for a reason and it is because they are and have been socialist since after WW2 .
