Rick Perry says each school district should determine whether to have teachers armed.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Monday he supports letting local school districts decide whether letting teachers and administrators carry guns on campus is the best way to make schools safer.

Perry spoke to the Northeast Tarrant County Tea Party, addressing the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut that left 20 children and six adults dead inside their elementary school.

The governor called it an evil act. "I hope everyone will reflect on how fleeting life can be," he said. "We have to do everything we can to make sure those types of evils are restricted the best they can be."

There will be plenty of time to have conversations about gun rights, he said, but Perry stressed the need to look at how mental health patients are treated and cared for.

"One thing I hope I don't see is knee-jerk reaction from Washington, where they come in and think they know the answers," he said.

Perry drew a round of applause when he talked about Harrold, Texas, a community that lets teachers and administrators who are properly permitted and trained to carry weapons on campus.

Note. In the blue portions of the country, the answer to the mass killing is to make the public even more helpless. In the red portions of the country, the answer is to give the public the ability to defend themselves. So - which part of the country do you think the next mass killing will take place in?

EDIT: I think the blue portions of the country - in line with their belief in the theories of Darwin - are conducting an experiment in evolutionary survival.

You need to pay more attention, Taxed. Compared to the idiot we ran for President, Perry is a breath of fresh air. Besides a man that supports the Tenth Amendment can't be all bad

You may have a point, MD.

May I also suggest that in a state that has carry based on one's own recognizance, such as Vermont, this most probably would not have happened.

Imagine in a state that has open carry.

Mitt Romney is much smarter than Rick Perry, though so is the chipmunk that crossed my yard yesterday. It is horrible that the democrats have already begun debating gun control before all of the victims of this horror are buried. Our nation still mourns their loss, now is not a time for politics. Rick Perry has done a lot of things democrats like in the past; forcing girls to have an HPV vaccine, benefits to illegal aliens, new spending in Texas. Rick Perry's comments are just as dumb as anyone from the democratic party, and his idea is also dumb. My idea is the only sensible one; metal detectors and a police officer stationed outside schools during school hours, ideally a gate with an armed gate guard would be best.

How about parents sending their children to church and vacation bible school, take control again over their children and actually teach them right from wrong.  Strange no one can see where all this started...it started with a home that there is no parental figure there but only to go to sleep, the rest of the time the kids are on their own.  You didn't see this 40 years ago, it was after everyone thought making a dollar was more important than raising a family, it doesn't appear to be going back in that direction any time soon.  Our Country is in deep trouble and it is because no one has the sense to do anything about it, continue to allow churches and Christianity to be targeted by the very worse elements of society.  The past few generations have raised nothing but savages, it shows in just about everything they do.  Laugh if you want but remember I'm one of those that actually slept with the doors unlocked and no gun in the house, and I grew up just fine and without any issues, any issues I have are recent after sitting here day in day out watching this country slowly destroyed by a few people that aren't qualified to operate a candy store.  This Country will not survive simply because there are not enough people to care any longer.  They are now the minority and will slowly become the enemy of this trash that is taking over.

School vouchers. Then if you want to send your child to Cheyenne Mountain Day school, you can; and then end all worries about their safety. Conversely, if you want to your little darling to attend Hippie Life Free School, you can send them there, and risk having them serve as an ambulatory target for any given maniac.

I am a strong supporter of school choice, be it vouchers or what we are going to be doing here in NJ; you can send your kid to any high school in your county. The problem I have with your premiss is, I don't agree with forcing kids to suffer because their parents are not smart. I think all our schools should be safe, and communities across the nation must work to ensure school safety with metal detectors and policing.

It's called a slippery slope. The feds already have their nose - along with the rest of the head, the neck, the front legs and most of the body up to the middle of the hump - in the tent. Getting them involved in "school safety" will simply be a replay of the TSA - lots of union jobs, government incompetence and little protection. I think the best of all possible worlds would be to make the parents patrol the schools - armed if they want to be. In addition, it should be difficult to even get at the kids. Plexiglass instead of glass and steel core doors strikes me as a good temp solution.

That may be true, Darth, but I can tell you this; people that a few short months or even weeks before the nomination was supposedly sown up, there were people that could not abide the POS. Even when there was still a clear alternative. Then one would think Romney could walk on water. He became the Crown Prince of Conservatism, and if one still had problems with his candidacy, we were told to shut the F up, take one for the team, rah, rah, rah, sis boom bah, and put your X on the dotted line. Then at convention the PUBS ran roughshod over the Tea Party and Paul supporters and we were still expected to vote Romney. Fokk the Republican Party unless they run a decent candidate, which ain't likely to happen. By the time, these silly bastards get through giving Obama Monica's, there may not even be a PUB Party. No great loss.

Joe Lieberman would have been a better candidate, at least he would have been straight down the middle and not one to divide the country like we now see.  The only thing I do dislike about him is he also signed onto that indefinite detention crap, but then all those idiots did.  I guess the best bet would be Jeb Bush for 2016, if I'm alive I would go with him.
