Here's the deal, so we all understand it.

I'm an employer, a person who hires other people to do work. I do this because I need other people to do the amount of work that needs to be done in a timely manner.

Let's say that I hire YOU, Elfie. I want you to build my widgets. When I hire you, I incur the obligation to pay you in LOTS of ways. I have to pay you your wages, first and foremost. But I also have to pay half of your Social Security obligation. I have to pay premiums on your behalf into the state's unemployment compensation fund. I may have to pony up for health care insurance for you and yours. I have to hire another person just to keep the books on what you and your cohorts make, get paid, etc. I may also have to deduct your child support payments, your alimony installments, your real estate taxes, or some other payments from your salary, and send that along to the rightful recipient.

Elfie, every single thing I've done since I typed your name the first time costs me money. I am going to make sure that you generate enough income to cover that outlay, or I am going to fire your ass tomorrow. And that's because, without you, I DON'T HAVE THESE EXPENSES.

Good point!

In Texas;

http://www.hrlawyersblog.com/2009/07/hr-law/unemployment-compensation/unemployment-compensation-in-texas-frequently-asked-questions/

Unemployment Insurance (UI) is an employer-paid insurance program that helps workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. It provides temporary financial help to qualified individuals, based on their previous earnings, while they are looking for other work. Employer taxes and reimbursements support the Unemployment Trust Fund. Employers cannot deduct any money from employees' paychecks to pay for this program.

I learned something it goes by state and its not a federal mandate...some states employees pay others obviously not

I wholeheartedly agree with you, OGB.  This is a perfect example of what desperate people will do to feed their families, keep their homes, and provide the basic necessities for their families.

This is why those of us who have prepared in advance for the economy going in the toilet the way it has, can't afford to TRUST people who we consider friends or acquaintances, or even some members of our family that don't live with us.

You missed the point or I mispresented it....he isnt going to actively seek a full time job...thats what got me...its not that hes trying to feed his family who could fault anyone for that...its that he is quite content to just collect it..and not seek work.

"Employees do not contribute to unemployment.  It is soley on the employer. Rates determined by payroll n employees." that is what I sad.   It was not the employer that repaid benifits claimed and recieved by the  person I spoke of,,, the next time the guy I spoke of filed,,,what he was being paid while actually workin a job were deducted from HIS benifits newly incurred.... This has happened to 2 persons that I know personally.  Yes I fully  understand what an employer pays. I smile n write the checks every quarter...
My point is they do check,,, and they do resopond to the un-right.  These dyas people are going to do what they can and how they can to make it. This has been going on since the housing/construction went belly up.  We have been in the battle for almost 4 yrs now...  Still alive,,,still kickin and wonderin what health care is gonna do to us next.....

You have to put yourself in his shoes, zip, which is probably hard to do if you live comfortably and don't have to worry about how you're going to pay your mortgage and put food on the table.  I've been there more than once, albeit many years ago.

If a person has professional skills and is overqualified for "menial" tasks, like being a cashier at a mini-mart, a drive-thru jockey at McDonald's, or a Wal Mart greeter or shopping cart wrangler, it is EXTREMELY difficult to accept jobs like those and retain some semblance of dignity, especially if you live in an area where friends and family are going to have contact with you while you are working a Mickey D's or Wal Mart.

I can't blame the guy for accepting what is being given to him and for making some money under-the-table.  You have to play the cards that you're dealt.  It's the GOVERNMENT that created this situation.  At least the man is WORKING, and I don't fault ANYBODY who can screw the Obamanistas out of income tax.

I myself have a hard time with anyone who takes advantage of the "system".  Many years ago had a neighbor on "welfare".  All because she had a baby without a Daddy.  When the kid started kindergarten I asked her why didn't she at least get a part time job.  Her response was why should she if she didn't have to...  Basically told her I was tired of supporting her ass and that she she do something with her life.

But on another note.  There have been tough times for all of us.  Even though I have a decent job there have been many times I took a second part-time job (doing something below my skills) just to help me make ends meet while raising 2 girls basically on my own.  You do what you have to do..... :) :)  Screw your pride.
I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

and sometimes there just are not jobs out there to be had. In Illinois...friggin hey good luck, you almost have to create  your own... In other places its not as bad, not to say it isn't bad...
But with this guys way of thinkin,,,, whats he gonna do when that runs its course.....
