A few things to keep in mind about 2014

1) The GOP is probably favored to win the Senate, on the basis of leading in SD, WV, MT, AR, LA, and AK. And it looks unlikely that KY and GA will turn out to be major problems. The Democrats' talk of putting Mississippi into play is absolutely absurd. If the GOP plays it right, they will win the Senate.

2) A major reason we do not control the Senate right now is because, on at least 5 separate occasions in the past 4 years, we have nominated God-awful candidates. These candidates are STRONGLY Conservative, which is GREAT, but they said VERY stupid things. Off the top of my head, I can think of Christine O'Donnell, Ken Buck, Sharon Angle, Richard Mourdock, and Todd Akin. That's a net 5 seats right there. Wouldn't winning the Senate be easier if we only had to pick up 1 seat? Matt Bevin in Kentucky's comments about cockfighting is another example that show the GOP hasn't learned from the ass-kicking it's received.

3) We have to win enough seats to insulate against the 2016 Senate map. Ron Johnson (WI), Mark Kirk (IL), and Pat Toomy (PA) will all be up for re-election, and if the Democrats take them out, then bye-bye Senate.

4) So far, for all the talk of this being the Tea Party's year, the Tea Party is getting its ass kicked. John Cornyn curb-stomped Steve Stockman in the primary in TX. Paul Broun & Phil Gingrey have fallen WAY behind in GA, and it's become a fight between Perdue/Kingston/Handel. Thom Tillis is way ahead of Greg Brannon in NC. Lindsey Graham in SC has more money than all his opponents combined. Mitch McConnell is going to beat Matt Bevin soundly. In what sense is this a Tea Party wave year?

5) The electorate is going to be whiter than 2012, but probably not as white as 2010. Demographic shifts are turning the country into more of a melting pot, and as long as the Democrats are able to rack up over 90% of the black vote and over 60% of the Hispanic/Asian vote, the GOP is going to keep getting frustrated.

6) One final note. Jim DeMint said that it would be better to have 30 rock-ribbed, solid Republicans than to have 60 moderates. You know who wants that? Harry Reid. Harry Reid would love nothing more than to have 43, 44, or 45 unflinching, uncompromising, absolutely ideologic Tea Party Senators, while the Democrats hold 55, 56, or 57 Seats. If the GOP can learn to fight battles tactically in order to win the overall war, they will be nearly unbeatable.

Another heartfelt plea to vote RINO from the least conservative (of any gender) now posting here.

"We"...? Bah. Humbug. Don't vote for people who want change, vote for who the party of other RINOs wants to win, so they can continue to go along to get along and compromise every value their voters assumed they had.

The Republican Party is not conservative. They deserve no sympathy for ANY surrender to the enemy.

WOW. Such a burning refutation of every single point that I made! Oh wait.... all of my points stand uncontested.

Great plan CG.  What do we win?  Amnesty on our terms?  Fix it, don't nix it for Obama care?  And, best of all, we find out what will happen when we go over the debt cliff.

Oh, so now you call yourself "cGirl" because everybody saw through your claim you were actually conservative.

Uncontest that one.

Look, my friends. We all want the same thing here. We all want Barack Obama to have as little power in the remaining years of his second term as possible. We all want the Democrats to lose control of both houses of Congress. And we all want the country to take a turn towards Conservatism. We all believe in lower taxes, in cutting wasteful spending and needless regulations, in protecting every person's rights to life, liberty, and property, and in making sure ALL people are treated with true equality before the law - male, female, black, white, old, young, gay, straight - ALL people.

Where we disagree, apparently, is the type of candidate we should run. I firmly believe that it's best to have a strongly Conservative Republican. However, I concede that that's not always possible when running in purple/blue states, and I contend that it's better to have a moderate Republican than a liberal Democrat. And I'm sorry, but we aren't going to win Senate seats in Oregon, Minnesota, and Michigan by running hyper-Conservative Tea Party candidates. It's just not happening. If it does, I'll eat my hat.

We're on the same side here, but I honestly think you guys should rethink your strategy. The biggest hole in your argument is that not one of you has provided one bit of evidence against the fact that the Democrats would be MUCH less powerful right now had the GOP not nominated disastrous candidates in the 5 races I mentioned.

No we don't.

The RINOs, that you support, enable him.  I want Hussein Obama to go to prison.  That is what I want and for him to be convicted for treason to our country.

Wrong.  I want all liberals, Dems or RINOs, to lose control.  Speak for yourself, lib.

No you don't.  You support candidates against all that.  You do not support what you preach.  Please turn that little brain you have on and start to think.

No you don't.  You support David Perdue and RINOs like that.

Quote

Wrong.  You don't believe in conservatism.

Quote

Wrong.  They're both treasonous pieces of crap.

Tell it to Scott Walker.  Conservatives don't lose elections.  Unions win them by all means necessary.

Quote
We're on the same side here,
Quit saying that.  You are a liberal with no standards.

Quote
but I honestly think you guys should rethink your strategy.
You and the liberals agree.  Sorry, I'll continue being a pro-American constitutional conservative.  It's still a free country until you get your way, but lucky for you, you support what the dictator would want anyway.

Look at 2010.  Look at 1994.  Look at 1980 and 1984.  Try again. liberal.
